Hovding to New Zealand 1872
orewachrisMy Great grandparents Anders and Maria Johansen, were aboard the Hovding which left Christiania in May 1872. Also with them was their daughter Louisa (Albertina) whoc was about one year old when they left Norway. How can I find out any information prior to them leaving Norway - their marriage or Louisa's birth for instance. Hope someone can help. They settled in Norsewood, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Maybe I have some relatives in Norway who are trying to put the pieces together and we can help each other Thanks
NearNorsewoodYou can find them here leaving Norway: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIOSLO&gardpostnr=25042&merk=25042#ovre Their residence is stated as Vennersborg. Anders is age 28 years, Marie is 29 years, Louise 1.5 years. Maybe someone with more knowledge of Norwegian geography could help you find Anders and Marie in the 1865 census.
orewachrisThank you very much for that quick reply. I will have to check that out, I understood Marie came from Frederickstaad. They sure are very difficult to research aren't they, but as you say the 1865 census would sure help. Thanks again

Randi FINNSDATTER: 1829-1910 http://www.norsewoodcemetery.co.nz/family-trees/johannesen-johan-descendants.html Arrived in New Zealand 1873 aboard SS Høvding, aged 44 years Christoffer FINNSEN: 1834-1??? http://www.norsewoodcemetery.co.nz/f/finnsen-christoffer.html Arrived in New Zealand 1872 aboard SS Høvding, aged 38 years Christoffer and Randi were brother and sister. Christoffer came to NZ in 1872, Randi the following year. The spelling of FINNSEN seems to have been changed to FINDSEN in NZ. I am not sure who the C. FINDSEN at the cemetery is as I don't have any info.
