Einar Olsen
Anita OlsenHello, this is my first message to this forum.... I am looking for as much information as possible on my father, Einar Olsen -- date of birth: May 2, 1899. He came to Canada in 1927, either on the ship Bergensfjord or Stavangerfjord. Does anyone out there know if there is information on whether his siblings & mother came with him? (His father, Anton Olsen, had died by 1927). Tak! Cheers, Anita Olsen
ShaftsburyI found this record that looks promising. Line #241099 shows an Einar Olsen dob. 02051899 traveling to Canada aboard the ship Stvr.fj on the 17th of October 1927. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIOSLO&gardpostnr=241099&personpostnr=241099#nedre I'm pretty new at the passenger records though so maybe somebody else can interpret better, or tell you where to look next.
jwiborgHi Anita, the National Archives of Canada have collected Immigration Records for the period 1925-1935. Einar Olsen, age 28, arrived at Port of Halifax , Nova Scotia on 26 OCT 1927 with the ship Stavangerfjord. The only other Olsen's who arrived at the same date was:
 • Gerd Olsen, age 3
 • Rolf Olsen, age 8
 • Oline Olsen, age 38
But they seem to be listed on different pages of the manifest. Normally familymembers are listed together... Jan Peter
jwiborgYes, this is the same person. But he seems to be travelling alone. There's noone else who has the address "Mossegt. 1". His occupation is stoker/fireman on a steamship. Notes reads "Udygtig b.f.". B.f is prob. short for "bedre fortjeneste", ie. the reason for his emigration is to make more money! [:)] As was for most of the people who emigrated... "Udyktig" can be directly translated into "incompetent". .., but it's probably related to that he's not enrolled in the Army. Many people got such papers just so they could be granted emigration... Seems to be an apartment building containing workers from the "Hjula Væveri" factory... a weaving mill.
