Skiptvet Bygdeboker
cockatiel	Hi all, Anyone know if there is a copy available of the Bygdeboker i Skiptvet by Arbeid? Have been trying to track one down with no luck. I do know it is probably very hard to come across one, but would like a copy to help with my looking of ancesters in the Skiptvet area on my grandmother's side who is Anna Ruud (Wamnes). cockatiel	Jan, No, they didn't mention at all about how long the other volumes would take, only that they had my details and would contact me closer to time when the volume containing the Vamnes Farm would be ready for printing. They never mentioned either if I had any information I would be able to submit to them regarding my ancestors in Skiptvet on the Vamnes Farm. I don't know, maybe they know more than what I do about them. I really sort of expected the cost to somewhere in that neighborhood considering all the work involved. I am ready to pay that amount. After all, this is priceless information regarding my ancestors which I can pass down to my chiodern. Will keep in touch and let you know when I hear any more news. Cockatiel
jwiborg	Hi, I'm not aware of any available Bygdebook from Skiptvet as of today. But there will be soon! [:)] The Skiptvet Bygdeboknemd (Skiptvet Bygdebok committee) will be releasing Volume I of the Skiptvet farm history this autumn. In total there will be 6 Volumes á ca. 400 pages, divided on 87 land numbers. Your Vamnes farm (1900: Vammenes) has land number 75, which might be in the very last volume, Volume VI. I'm not sure when that's due to be released. You should contact The Bygdebok committee directly, either on mail or by phone; [url="http://www.skiptvet.kommune.no/kommunale_tjenester/kultur/bygdebokarbeid/"]click here[/url] They want to get in touch with genealogists who have information about farms and family from Skiptvet, so maybe you have some info they could add to the Vamnes farm history...? cockatiel	Hi Jan, I don't remember what site it was now that I saw it, but I remember reading somewhere that there was a bygdebok called: Bygdebokarbeidet i Skiptvet. It was by Arbeid. I don't know too much about it, just remember reading about it. Sounds like there will probably be a newer and more updated version of the Skiptvet Bygdebok then, starting this Autumn. As my Norwegian is rather sparse, although I do pick up a few words here and there, I couldn't really understand what email address to use for writing to the bygdebok's committee. Wondering if you could steer me in the right direction by telling me what email address I should use from the site you gave me, as I would like to write and tell them of my interest in the book, as well as inform them of my family's ancestral background in Skiptvet. jwiborg	Hi, I think you must have read something about the onging Bygdebok project... [:)] Arbeid means just "work", and probably just meant that the work on the books was ongoing... The phone numbers to the leader (Torhild Wang Sletner) and the writer (Magne Berggren) was listed on that page. cockatiel	Hi Jan, Thought I'd let you know I have heard from the committee in regards to the Skiptvet Bygdebok. Apparently, Volume 1 has been delayed, and won't be going to the printers before June 2006. They did tell me that the Vamnes Farm wasn't in the first volume, as you had mentioned. They have taken down my details and will notify me when the volume that pertains to the Vamnes Farm is due to be released. At this stage, no prices have been set. Will let you know when I know more. jwiborg	Hi! Sorry to hear about the delay! Did they mention anything about how fast they would release the other Volumes? I would expect your Vamnes farm to be in the very last volume, based on the land number. With regards to prices, you should expect maybe 100 Australian dollars per Volume, possibly more... [:I] Often, prices on such "bygdebooks" are quite high, due to the cost of making them. It takes many years of hard work to collect and write down all the info, and the sales volume are also limited. Besides of public libraries etc, it's mostly people related to the area who buy them... [:)] Jan Peter
