Looking for Stotnes,Ogrosky
KrokmoI am trying to find any info on Stotnes or Ogrosky who are in US. It was Christian Stotnes and his wife Sigud Stotnes who went to America. I was told they went to America in 1920 or 1922. They had two children Grace and Charles. We believed Grace got married and last name will be Ogrosky. Grace was born in 1914. Is there anyone out there who can help us? Also can e-mail us at krokmos@yahoo.com
BriningOn Ellis Island, Chritian, Sigud and Grace Stotnes are returning to the US on Oct 20 1922. It says that Grace was born in North Bay Oregon August 13 1914 so they would have had to emigrated prior to that. Their destination is Diamondville Iowa. I will see if I can find any more information. Carla
KrokmoThanks Carla...Can you help me find out if Grace had any kids. We were told she had two...Charles and Karen. According to the records for Grace....she died in 1995. Her last known address was in Seattle WA. And I think I have the social security number for Grace...will that help to find more info on her and maybe the kids? If so please let me know what site I can go to. Again thanks alot.
BriningGrace is in the Social Security Death Index Click Here and they have the option to order a copy but I don't know if that will give you any additional information. I found that Christian lived in Diamondville WYOMING and he is in the 1920 census listed as SCOTNESS CHRIS 34 M W NORW WY LINCOLN DIAMONDVILLE There is also a death record in the SSDI for Christian Scotness in Seattle. he died in 1964. There is one Charles Ogrosky listed on Searchbug Click Here you could try writing or calling to see if he is the correct one. I didn't find any Ogrosky listed in the state of Washington Carla
KrokmoThanks Carla...you have been a good help. I am filled with joy right now from the info you gave me. I did find the social security info before you told me...but I didn't know that there was a Charles Ogrosky...but thanks for finding him and I will write him and see if he is related. If you find any other info..please let me know. Thanks again.
KrokmoIs there anyone out there can tell me where I can get more info by using there social security number please let me know. I am trying to find out more about their children. Haven't been able to find anything else on them.
BriningYou are probably not going to get much information from the social security. You could try getting a copy of the death certificates for Grace and Charles. Grace C. Ogrosky, 81 years old died Dec 3 1995 in Seattle Washington Charles E. Ogrosky Jr. 88 years old died March 8 2001 in Seattle This site Click Here gives information on ordering death certificates. The certificate should list who provided the information and where they lived. You could also try joining the Noway-L mailing list and posting a query there Click Here I know they have members in Washington and it is a very helpfull mailing list. Carla
KrokmoThanks...I will start the order process. I will also post a query. Thanks. I will never give up till I can find everything I can about our family in USA.
Jo Anne SadlerHere is a site to order Vital Records all over the U.S. It also has links to Gen Webs and local historical societies. www.vitalrec.com
KrokmoThank you....will check out the link.
KrokmoWell I am not getting anywhere else with this...Tried getting the death cert. but they claim they have no listing of Charles and Grace Ogrosky. How is it possible we find their names listed and they do not have a record of their death...I am trying to find any children of Charles and Grace...We know of a Charles Ogrosky and we were told that they had a daughter name Karen...But I can\t seem to find anything. I saw SOMEWHERE when Charles died that his death was verified by a family member or friend...but haven\t found anything esle. He died in 2001. If anyone out there can help me get through this brick wall...I will be so happy.

KrokmoOkay I am back again searching for a volunteer to help me find the obituary on the ancestor's web site or any other site that shows who the relatives are listed on there and anything else that could be helpful to me. I have tried contacting the Social Security again and they are just giving me the run around. The other day I wrote to the Social Security Department to see if I could get the name or the funeral home of who had advised them of the death of my ancestor who came to Seattle Washington 1920 from Norway. I stated when Chris and Signe Scotness died. I also stated when Charles E. Ogrosky and Grace C. Ogrosky died and this is the response I get back from them. They didn' t give me anything I asked for. They just told me SSA maintains a Death Master File (DMF), Although the DMF is not available online from SSA, the United States Department of Commerce's National Technical Information Service (NTIS) will offer a subscription service for online queries of the Death Master File through their Web site. I did not request a copy of the Social Security Death Master File. I just wanted to know who notified them of their deaths. But got the run around. So is there anyone out there who can volunteer their service and help me find that info please.
HopkinsThe SSA won't have that information nor will they have resources to be able to recreate it. Besides the most typical reporting of deaths is when death benefits are applied/claimed for from a family member NOT a funeral home. Claim files are destroyed within a few years of final disposition. Ogrosky seems a fairly uncommon name - have you searched the online telephone directories and done a mailing to any found with that surname? Of course, you have no guarantee that any survivors in the family are interested whatever in their family history.
KrokmoYes I have found a couple and have contacted them. One I have got a respnse back and they are not related and the other I just wrote a couple days ago. So it will take more time with him. But I am still searching and never giving up. Thanks for your reply and help.
