Photographs of Norsewood
orewachrisThe photographs you posted of Norsewood are amazing. Could you tell me where they came from and are there any more? Also have you any idea what year the photo of the street was taken?
NearNorsewoodHi, Chris. Which photos are you referring to?
orewachrisSorry - I thought the message would turn up on the page the photos were posted :) There was a photo of the original settlers of Norsewood in 1922 (Silver Jubilee) and another of the main street of Norsewood (date unknown). They were posted by BORGE on a page discussing Mortensens in NZ 9.6.3 (oh my gosh I didn't realise the posting was that old!). I am only new to this forum stuff so am having a few teething problems - sorry
BorgeThe pictures are from Ingrid Semmingsen's book "Veien mot vest" page 304. Description: Norwegian Norsewood pioneers at the 1922 gathering (50 years after the arrival) - Pictures in courtesy of Nordmansforbundet. The collection is now mainly taken over by the Norwegian Emigrant Museum at Hamar as far as I know, but I am not sure if there are other pictures, you could try contacting them about it: museum@emigrant.museum.no
orewachrisThank you Borge - I will follow that up
NearNorsewoodHi, orewachris. The photo of the settlers also appears in the book, "Norsewood the Centennial Story" by my great uncle A.L. (Archie) ANDERSEN. The Norsewood museum - which is often quoted as the source of photos for books - holds a variety of photos if you want to make a trip. The Norsewood Information Centre / The Barn has been selling reprints of the ANDERSEN book for about $NZ25. They have other Norsewood books for sale.
