bob thompsonWe need to know if Andrew Markegaard was born in Norway and did he have any Brothers or Sisters
DALBDid your Andrew live in Minnesota? I have a reference to an Andrew O Markegaard, born 3 Oct 1869 at Rushford, Fillmore Co., Minnesota. He married Hannah Larson and they had four daughters. On the 1900 census there is a farm Markegaard in Hemsedal, Buskerud. I did not find a reference to it on the 1865 census.
Hopkins1900 US census for a Andrew Markegaard in Grant Co. Minnesota (wife Hannah) - lists his birth as Oct 1870, says he was born in Minnesota, but both parents from Norway. Several other households called Markegaard in that state - possible relatives and/or siblings? highest concentration of that surname in 1900 Minnesota appears to have been in Winona County. Also Grant, Fillmore and Clay County Minn. show occurences of that surname and almost identical spellings between 1900 and 1920. I checked for emigrants leaving larger Norwegian ports and listing "M?rkeg?rd" as part of last name. All found listed Gol, Hallingdal, Buskerud as previous residence. But did also notice a farm in Luster, Sogn og Fjordane by the 1865 name of "Mærkesgaard"
