jwiborg | Hi,
sprogl.hist. lærereks are short for sproglig historisk lærereksamen.
[språklig historisk lærereksamen in modern Norwegian]
English: linguistic (and) historical teacher's certificate examination
The teacher training in Norway became divided into two different branches of study in 1871; one "språklig historisk" and one "matematisk-naturvitenskapelig".
språklig historisk meaning you were studying languages and history.
matematisk-naturvitenskapelig = mathematical and scientific subjects.
In those days you could get 5 different grades at the University; where 1 to 1.5 was the top score. Compared to an "A" in the US.
1,0-1,5 >> Laudabilis præ ceteris
1,6-2,5 >> Laudabilis
2,6-3,2 >> Haud illaudabilis
3,3-4,0 >> Non contemnendus
4,1-6,0 >> Immaturus
Getting "Laudabilis præ ceteris" (abbreviatet "præcet") ment that you got the top score... prae ceteris is Latin and can be directly translated to "above the others"... [:)]
Getting a score below 4 ment that you failed the exam, and you got the grade "immaturus", ie. immature... [:I]
