Gulbrand Pederson/Olave Larsdatter
lindamyhreI'm looking for any information on Gulbrand Pederson (aka Gilbert Pederson, later took name of Gilbert Myhre). According to census info he arrived in US in 1875. He was born 1/23/1856. He married Olave Larsdatter (later took name of Lizzie Larson), born 8/27/1852, in Wisconsin on 2/16/1874. Parents of Gilbert: Peder Thorson and Hubel Gulbrandsdatter. Parents of Lizzie: Lars Aasgavard and Christine M. Christoffersdatter.
HopkinsMy reading of 1900 and 1910 census indexes (Washington state) indicates that he left Norway in 1878 or 1880. There is a daughter in the household, Anna, born about Feb 1877 in Norway - possibly a years or more before Gilbert and 'Lizzie' married? Their son Nathan appears to have been about 1885 in Wisconsin.
HopkinsPossible match in the 1865 Norwegian census - location Gjøvik in Oppland (but four oldest in the household were born in Nes, Hedmark. http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=0502&kenr=0037&bnr=0037&lnr=000 (I did look in Nes, Hedmark - there were a number of farms there named Myhre... possibly an earlier family link will be found to one of them.) Here's a young man leaving from Oslo/Kristiania within the time period expected. He is still single and has previously resided in Biri, Oppland and appears headed to the exact area where your Gulbrand Pederson was living in the 1880 US census. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIOSLO&gardpostnr=48082&sokefelt=skjul
lindamyhreThanks for the help. I can't ignore the coincidences in the Digitalarkivet. The Gulbrand Pedersen listed was travelling with Lise Olsen, Anna Olsen, and Lina Larsen, all from Birid. My Lizzie used the name Lisa and she had a sister named Lena. The ages all match. I also know she was married before Gilbert. There is a family story that Gilbert made the shoes for her first wedding. This gives me a start in Norway. I had no clue where they came from. Is there a Myhre farm in that area?
HopkinsI think you'll find farms like 'Myhre' in almost every district of Oppland Iand in many other parts of Norway).
BriningHere is a Gulbrand Peders. in the 1865 census living on Myrstuen Click Here only problem is the parents name doesn't match with yours [:0] Biri has some church records online Click Here It is mostly in Norwegian. Click on Kirkebøker for the church records and Folketellinger for the 1875 census which has a Gudbrand Peders working on the Semb farm. Carla
