Emigration by cattle boat |
NancyC | I am looking into a group of young men who emigrated from Sand, Rogaland Province, in 1890. They settled in Fillmore County, Minnesota, and Mauston, Wisconsin. The daughter of one of these men says she heard that her father came to the US by cattle boat, but she doesn't know the name of the boat or its route across the Atlantic. She thinks her dad might have worked his way over, but there is also information that a friend paid for his passage. Does anyone have information about emigration by cattle boat? In case the names might help, they are:
Pål (Paul) Severin Hanson (1870-1930)
Lars Endresen Eide (25 Aug 1869-17 Oct 1939)
Malenius Endresen Eide (17 Nov 1873-1971)
Thanks for any information about emigration by cattle boat or the men above! |
ninakarls | Emigration protocols from Stavanger are very incomplete, but there's a reference to a Malenius Eide, saying he returned to Norway in 1904 and that his death notice was printed in Stavanger aftenblad August 3rd 1971.
