Canadian Pacific Line, 1909
liljeI haven't been able to find on the internet the sailing schedule of the Canadian Pacific Line between UK and Canada, except the information that they had one sailing per week between Liverpool and Canada (Quebec/Montreal in summer, St. John, N.B. in winter). My great uncle Peder Kristian Johannessen must have sailed on the first Canadian Pacific Line ship to leave Liverpool on or after late Monday February 15, 1909 (he travelled from Norway to Hull with the Wilson Line, leaving Oslo on February 13, and would have arrived in Liverpool by train from Hull in the afternoon on the 15th). Do anybody have the details, so I can find which ship he sailed on and port (probably St. John) and arrival date in Canada? I am not 100% sure about his destination in Canada, but it was possibly Winnipeg. If I am not mistaken, the Canadian Pacific Line agent in Norway, Albert Raffel, sold the whole journey from Oslo to the final destination in Canada as a package, 1) Oslo-Hull with the Wilson Line, 2) train Hull-Liverpool, 3) Canadian Pacific Line Liverpool - either Saint John, Quebec or Montreal, and 4) train ticket with the Canadian Pacific Railway from the Canadian port to the final destination in Canada (mostly the prairie provinces or BC). Are archives from Albert Raffel in existence so that it can be possible to find to which final destination in Canada my great uncle had bought tickets? Per B. Lilje Oslo per.lilje (at) astro.uio.no
