| Can you find Mari's Hansdatter's husband's name? |

Below is a copy of a post to a previous question regarding Hans Olsen.
Hi,
people living at the Roven farm was in the 1801-census registered under Kongslie Nordre, so this is probably your Hans; click here (# 2848)
Hans' mother is widow Mari Hansdatter (43).
His sister Marit Olsdatter (19), and brothers Østen Olsen (15) and Peder Olsen (3) are also living there.
Their father Ole must have died around 1797-1801.

I have tried using Digitalarkivet to search for Mari Hansdatter's husband full name, but I have not been able to find him. I will be going to Salt Lake City next month, so if anybody can point me in the right direction to find the right bygedebok, or what his name was, it would be greatly appreciated.

| Hopkins | You may as well be able to search the LDS library catalog before you walk in the door. Use the LDS library catalog online at
http://www.familysearch.org/
On the right hand side of their homepage you will see a link entitled "Family History Library Catalog" - click on that.
Choose "Place Search" by clicking on that.
In the box waiting for your entry of Place you'll want to type in the name of the district/parish that you want to find resources for. You didn't give the name of that in your posting above - but I'll have to assume that you are talking about either Nord-Fron or Sor-Fron in Oppland which were not yet separated at the time of the 1801 census. In the box labelled 'Part of' you can type in either Oppland or Norway. Then click on the "Search" button.
The catalog will check that you have started to look in the right area and if you choose the correct place listed by clicking on it again it will present you with a list of the topics that they have information about. You could use church records or any existing bygdebøker they might have in their collection. Bygdebøker are usually listed under the LDS catalog topics of History and/or Genealogy.
The library catalog will give you the exact call number of the books as they sit on the shelves in the area of the Norway collection and will also list the film notes that give you the exact microfilm or microfiche number.
Make sure that you have taken careful notes of the location, farm name(s) and any other identifying information when you walk into the library. They should help you find the right farm/family in the bygdebøker as they are usually organized by farm name.
You can also begin to study how to read and use the Norwegian church records and many bygdebøker by reading the articles available here online -

The name Østensen fits well knowing that their oldest son also is named Østen, he must thus have been named after his grandfather...
