OddI am searching for a aunt of my grandmother, whom they lost contact with in USA .Her name was Hanna Ingebretsen born 6 January 1863 in Fredrikshald (Halden) Norway. She left Kristiania (Oslo) Norway 1 September 1882 by a ship named s/s Angelo, Wilson line with destination St.Paal. I have been searching her for many years., but I have found nothing. Are there anybody who can halp me? Odd Nilsen
jwiborgHi, I guess this name confusion could be due to a transcription error, ie. that the person who made this record available on Familysearch was reading the name wrong. It would be very easy to solve though! "Just" look up the original churchbook, and read what it says... [:)] Source Information: Batch Number: C420736 Source Dates: 1860 - 1865 Film or Fiche Number: 255773 Collection Details: Halden; Den Norske Kirke I'm quite positive it must be the same person, and that the name in the churchbook would read "Hanna" if you look closely... [;)] Here they are in census-1865: click here You can see that her brothers Martin and Gunne are registered with the same parents as Hanna/Leanna. Christoffer Engebretsen (47) & Anne Sofie Olsdatter (42) Children:

OddThank you Trond and Jan Petter. Very interesting to read Morgenbladet 29.sept.1882.I have found her and the siblings in census 1865 and 1875 in Fredrikshald Norway. Her brother Gunder Engebretsen left Kristiania with s/s Geiser 12 July 1883 for Clayton. probably Iowa. He arrived to New York 27 July. I know he was back in Fredrikshald in 1901. But were did Hanna disappeared in USA?
TrondHanna used the agent Andersen according to the police records. This agent would have been Halfdan Andersen who was the general agent for Inman Line in 1882. Angelo left Oslo Sept. 1 and arrived in Hull, England a couple of days later. Inman steamship “City of Montreal” left Liverpool Sept 6 and arrived in New York Sept. 16 1882. She was most likely onboard this ship. Newspaper Morgenbladet, September 29 1882: According to telegram; The Inman Line royal post steamship “City of Montreal” who left Liverpool Sept 6, arrived New York Sept 16 with passengers whom left Christiania Sept 1 1882. All well.
Odd[:)]Trond, thank you for your answer. Now I am 16 days more ahead. My grandmother told me for 40 years ago: Her aunt Hanna went to America, and after that they did not hear anything from her. She learned from her parents that there was a big fire, and that she probably disappeared after that. When and where that fire was she did not know. In Family search I have found a Leanna Kristoffersdatter Born Jan:.1863, Christning:03 May 1863 in Halden.Father:Kristoffer Ingebretsen. Mother Anne Sofie Andersdatter. Batch no:C420736 Film no.255773. Why have the name been changed from Hanna to Leanna? Hanna has been a mystery for me for more than 40 years. Is there anybody who can help me to solve the problem? TrondThe police records indicate that she traveled with a part of another family: Julie Brygelsen 24 Arthur Brygelsen 4 Markus Brygelsen 2 They were all going to St. Paul (Wisconsin/Minnesota). The ticket for Julie Brygelsen and children was prepaid (America).
