Hi! My name is Michelle and I maried into the Norlie family a year ago. Shortly after getting married I started on my husbands family history. It has been slow going and I need quite a bit of help. I was exstatic when I found this web site!! Here is where what I know and where I get stuck. I'm searching for Adolph Norlie who was born in 1879 in Norway. He married Mina nee Olson in 1904 in Norway. They had two daughters Helga (later changed to Helen) and Olga, who were both born in Norway. In 1908 Adloph and his brother-in-law Adolph RUM came to North Dakota. Later Mina and her two dtrs. followed. They were only there until 1909 when Adolph and his BIL went to Alberta, Canada to start a homestead. Mina and the girls followed in the spring of 1910. Adolph and Mina then had two boys and a girl born to them in Canada. I know the last name Norlie was NORDLIE befor they came to America. What I can't figure out is where in Norway Adolph and Mina were born, who their parent's are and how many children they had. I know Adolph had to have a sister but I dont have any information on her or their parents. I know there is a farm called ROM and one called NORDLIE in Loten, Hedmark. I'm not sure how to get information on those farms or how to even search Norweigen records of any kind. I would love to share what ever information I have and compare notes with other people. Please let me know if you have any information that might help me search this family line. I really appreciate it and sorry this is so long. [:)]">

jwiborgHi, Adolf Kariniussen Nordli (born 05 APR 1874) from Løiten left Oslo on April 14th, 1908; link Adolf Nordli (33y, b.1875) arrived with the ship "The Lucania" on April 25th, 1908, sailing from Liverpool. jwiborgMina Norlie (b.03 AUG 1884), Helga Norlie (b. 14 NOV 1905) and Olga Norlie (b. 31 MAY 1908) emigrated from Kristiania (=Oslo) to North Dakota on September 24th, 1909. Mina Narlie and the two girls arrived on Ellis Island on Oct 05, 1909, with the ship United States. Mina's fathers name is written on the manifest, but it's hard to read. It looks like Ole Evensen(?), Løiten. If that's the case, then here she is in census-1900 for Løiten, Hedmark: click here Parents are Ole Evensen Kildal and Mathea Pedersdatter Kildal on the Kildal øvre farm. [:)] According to Familysearch.org, Emma born 24 May 1877, christened 09 Sep 1877 looks to be a sister to Mina. From the census, Pauline is also a sister, and she have a brother named Ole. Anne, Olaf and Mathilde are foster childs. Anne Mortensdatter is a pauper. Adolph Norlie's father can probably be found in the 1865-census for Elverum (or Løiten), Hedmark. If in Elverum, his first name must be spelled Karinus. Carinus and Karinius are possible extra variants in Løiten only. Jan Peter

jwiborgArriving in New York on July 28th 1908, Anne Rom (born 04 JUN 1891) states that her closest relative is uncle Ole Olsen, Kildal, Løiten. Her father paid the ticket, and his name is listed as Adolf O. Rom, Star P.O., North Dakota. So this Anne is probably daughter of Adolph Nordlie's travelling companion. This could be Anne's father Adolf Olsen(?) Ie. that he is a son of Ole Evensen Kildal and Mathea Pedersdatter! (And not as you are indicating, that Mr. Rum would be married to Mr. Nordlie's sister.) Anne Rom states in her Ellis Island manifest that her uncle is Ole Olsen Kildal, which is Minas brother...[:)] And that means that Anne is living by her grandparents in the 1900 census.... Her father emigrated to the US in 1892... But where is her mother? And that makes Adolph Rum Adolph Nordlie's brother-in-law....! Thus, Adolph Nordlie doesn't need to have any siblings... A possibility for Adolph Nordlie's parents in the 1900-census for the Nordli farm Elverum: Karinus Sørlie (b. 1844) and Maren Martinusdatter (b. 1855). famgen1Hi! I'm still a little fuzzy on the whole Brother in law thing between Adolf Norlie and Adolf Rom. I guess I'm just understanding the way you explained HOW they are related if Adolf Norli has no siblings. Could you explaine that one more time for me? Also, are there any death dates accompanied with these names? You are all awesome! Thank you so much for all your help! Have a great day! :)
jwiborgHi Michelle, first of all; you start of this topic by saying "I know Adolph had to have a sister..." Question: How do you know that? Is it because Adolph Norlie had a brother-in-law named Adolph Rum, and you expect that this Mr. Rum is married to Norlie's sister? Because I don't think so. I'm not saying that Adolph Norlie did NOT have any siblings, because I don't know that. I don't even know his parents... [:)] But I think this Adolph Rum is born Adolf Olsen, and that he is Mina's brother! That would also make Mr Rum Adolph Norlie's brother-in-law. Because: Anne Rom (born 04 JUN 1891) states in her Ellis Island manifest from July 28th 1908, that her closest relative is uncle Ole Olsen, Kildal, Løiten. He must be the 12 year old boy from Kildal øvre farm in census 1900, and he is Mina's brother. Thus; Mina is Anne's aunt. Anne's father paid the ticket, and his name is listed as Adolf O. Rom, Star P.O., North Dakota. The "O" must/could be short for Olsen, and would make this Adolf an older brother to Mina and Ole. So; Adolph Norlie is married to Adolph Rom's sister; = his brother in law... Of course; Adolph Norlie can have brothers or sisters, but there is no proof of that yet...[:)] Jan Peter
jwiborgFrom the register of emigrated people in the Løiten churchbook; Year=1892, destination=Amerika. Widower Adolf Olsen Rom, born 1869, confirmation 1883, married 7-Feb-1891. Wonder if his wife could have died in childbed, when she was giving birth to Anne...? Jan Peter
famgen1I get it now! DUH!! Sorry about that. That does make sense. I definately think you are on the right track with Adolf Rom/ Olsen and Mina being the uncle and aunt of Anne Rom. In a brief family Bio it states: " In 1908 Dad (Adolph norlie) and his Brother-in-law, Adolph Rum decided to come to america to seek their fortune. They arrived in N.Dakota near Minot along the Morise River. A short time after mother (Mina norlie) came with her daughters, she was to stay with Mr. Rum's borther and family. In the later part of 1909 dad and Mr. Rumcame to Alberta." I guess I just assumed that Alf Norlie (Adolph and Mina's son) who wrote that would have specified that "Mr. Rum" was Mina's brother if that was the case. But I suppose that's not really pertinant info. when trying to keep things "short and sweet". :-) Now, in that little paragraph it says that Mina and her daughters were to stay with Mr. Rum's brother and family. Could they be Mina's family as well? Or could there be another connection I'm not making? :-) Let me know what you think. Thank you again for all your help!
jwiborgHmmm... Isn't Adolf a brother to Mina after all? From Familysearch.org: Adolf Olsen Birth: 02 Feb 1869 Christening: 04 Apr 1869, Loten, Hedmark, Norway Parents: Ole Nielsen og Agnete Olsddatter Link Census 1865 for Løiten, Hedmark: Farm: Rom søndre Ole Nielsen, housefather, farmer, married, 38, born in Toten (Stange) Agnette Olsdatter, his wife, married, 37, born in Stange Arndt Necolai Olsen, son, 7, Stange Ole Olsen, son, 5, Løiten Teodor Olsen, son, 3, Løiten Anne Olsdatter, his mother, widow, 75, Stange Link Ole Olsen Rom (22) from Løiten emigrates to Pelican Rapids in 1884: Link This could be the brother Adolph Rom is referring to! Adolph's ticket in 1892 was prepaid in the US..., maybe by brother Ole Olsen Rom? So the recently established link to "sister" Mina is broken... They can't be siblings after all...! [B)] I think we need to find who he wedded in 1891..., could he have married an older sister to Mina? Emma and Pauline are to young to be married in 1891... Hmmm! There must be a missing link here...! [:)] Jan Peter
jwiborgMichelle, the missing link is found! [:)] From Løten bygdebok 2 under Rom søndre: Adolf Olsen Rom b.1869 married Anne Olsdatter Solbergsengen b.1870 in 1891! Anne Olsdatter Solbergsengen must be Mina's sister! I would guess that Anne died in childbed, and that the newborn girl was named after her. And the young girl is a fosterchild at her grandparents house (Anne Olsdatter's parents) in census-1900. Jan Peter
jwiborgHi again, here is an interesting topic @ Rootsweb..., have you read this? The post is from 1999 from someone name Laurie... [:)] And with regards to the recurrent farmname Solbergsengen, when the 1900 census shows them living on the Kildal øvre farm. It's the same farm! The main farm in the area is Solberg øvre (landnumber 255, titlenumber 1). Kildal/Kjeldal øvre has (landnumber 255, titlenumber 5). Solbergsengen ("The Solberg meadow") must be an old name derived from the main farm, and at some time (between 1866-1886) they must have decided to change the fame name to Kildal. In census-1865 the farmname is Solbergsengen. In the Landregister of 1886 and 1950 it's spelled Kjeldal. Census 1900 says Kildal. Solbergseie would be another name for Solbergsengen. And even though they changed the name, the old name would probably be in use for decades to come verbally... Jan Peter
famgen1My husband and I came across that just last week. I printed it off that night. I was going to mention it but wasn't sure if it would help us any. If I could get the translation for : "Fodt i solbergsengen af foraeldrene...." That might tell us something I'm not sure. I should contact her and give her what I have if she has not had any luck. Maybe we are related to her somehow. She said it was her Grandmother or something like that. Anyway, I have a photo copy of some pics that our grandma Norlie gave me. There is some stuff written in Norweigen (I assume) that I haven't been able to get translated. Maybe this will tell us something. "hir ser dir far og mar og mim yugste lerar (leror/ leron) de andre kinder de." "her sender jig eo lirllide of bestemor og bistifar og ole og dronningen og family." The writing is in cursive and its very shakey handwriting so I hope I got that all right. Our Grandma Norlie said that the pictures were of Mina, Adolf, their 5 kids (Helga/Helen, Olga, Melvin, Anna, and Alfe). There is an older photo that has nothing written near it and Grandma wasn't sure who all was in it. But there are 2 men, 2 women and 3 kids in the photo. I can try and upload them if that would help. I'm so glad this is all coming together! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
jwiborgHi, "Fodt i solbergsengen af foraeldrene...." can be translated into "Born on Solbergsengen by the parents..." "hir ser dir far og mar og mim yugste lerar (leror/ leron) de andre kinder de." Here you see (my) father and mother and my youngest teacher. The other ones you know. "her sender jig eo lirllide of bestemor og bistifar og ole og dronningen og family." Here I send a picture of grandma and grandpa, and Ole and The Queen and Family" Bestemor og bestefar (grandma and grandpa) could be Mina's parents Ole Evensen and Mathea Pedersdatter. Ole could be Mina's brother Ole Olsen b. 1888. And The Queen...? Are you of Royal Family... [:D] Laurie from the Rootsweb post must be the granddaughter of Helga (Helen) Norlie. Jan Peter
famgen1HAA, HAAA, Haaa!! I dont think were are royal! I just emailed that Laurie girl to find out who she was exactly and if there was any information we could trade. Hopefully she will email me back. If she is the Grandaughter of Helga that would make her my father in law's first cousin I believe. Maybe she will have something we dont.
jwiborg[;)] Well, maybe they called Ole's wife for "The Queen"...? [:)] Marriage record from Løiten parish: 30-Dec-1911 Ole Olsen Kjeldal (Farmer, born on Kjeldal 1889) Borghild Antonsdatter Solbergsveen (Born on Solbergsveen 1891) His father: Ole Evensen Kjeldal Her father: Anton Olsen Solberg Here she is in census 1900, on the (Solberg) Sveen farm in Løiten, next to Kjeldal! Jan Peter
famgen1Are you saying the people listed above are Mina's parents and grandparents? Or who are you saying these people might be? I thought Ole Evensen Kidal and Mathea pedersdatter were Mina's parents. I'm lost again. Sorrry :(
jwiborgThe Ole Olsen Kjeldal above is Mina's brother... [:)] He married a local girl named "Borghild" in Løiten in 1911..., I was just thinking that maybe she could be the one referred to as "The Queen" from your picture... [:I] grandma ... grandpa ... Ole ... The Queen... Family could be: Ole Evensen ... Mathea Pedersdatter... Ole (Mina's brother) ... Borghild (Ole's wife)... "Family" could be children to Ole & Borghild But this is just "qualified" guessing...[:)] Jan Peter
famgen1now I'm with ya! That sounds like it could be right. It looks so far like not much is known about her other two sisters, Emma and Pauline. I was also wondering about the foster children, Anne, Olaf, and Mathilde. If they were never officially adopted, then do I include them in the family history? We've established that there is a connection between Anne and Adolph Rom/Olsen, but should I research and include to the other two? Other than to say that they were foster children of Ole and Mathea?
jwiborgHi again, Finally some valid information about Adolph Norlie's origin! [:)] Adolf Karinus Birth: 05 APR 1874 Christening: 12 JUL 1874 Elverum, Hedmark, Norway Parents: Karinus Andersen & Helene Olsdatter Click here According to the original churchbooks for the area, Adolf Karinus Karinussen [= Adolph Norlie] was an illegitimate child. Parents were bachelor Karinus Andersen Svendsstuen from Aamot township in Hedmark, and girl Helene Olsdatter Nordli from the Nordli farm in Elverum Hedmark. From the Elverum bygdebok, volume 4, page 222: In the last century Løken Andersstua had a cotter's farm called Nordli. Until 1895 Ole Halvorsen (1819-1895) from Flakstad in Løten lived there. He was a painter and a cotter with some land. He was married to Ragnhild Larsdtr. (1807-1878) from Östmark in Sweden. By the time of census-1875, also their daughter Helene Olsdatter born 1849 was living on the Nordli farm, with her two children Olaf Antonsen born 1870 and Adolf Karenussen born 1874. jwiborgWith regards to the foster children: Anne you allready know of. She is the daughter of Adolf Olsen Rom and Minas sister Anne Olsdatter Solbergsengen (1870 - 1891/1892). Olaf Marius, born 30-Apr-1897, christened 22-Aug-1897. Parents: Gunder Olafsen Løbak (b.1870) and Mari Olsdatter (b.1875). Father lives on the Hanekne farm, mother lives on Solbergsengen. His (no number) illegitimate child, her first illegitimate child. Note reads: Notified (to the authorities/priest) by Ole Evensen, Solbergsengen. Mari Olsdatter must be another siste to Mina, thus Olaf is also living by his grandparents! Mathilde, born 18-Feb-1900, christened 04-Jun-1900. Parents: Bachelor Aksel Pedersen Solberg (b.1879) and girl Pauline Olsen Solbergsengen (b.1879) His first illegimate child. Her first illegimate child. Note reads: Notified by the mother of the child. Aksel looks to be from Sweden. Temp. forest labour in Trysil, Hedmark. Minas sister Pauline is Mathilde's mother, so this girl is also living by her grandparents! [:)] Jan Peter
famgen1This is all so great! I'll go ahead and add the foster to children to the family history and just make a note that, that is what the relation to Ole and Mathea was. That's great info to have about them though in case someone comes looking for them! I'm noticing that there are no death dates accompanied with the info you've given me. Is there any way to try and figure out who died when and where? I know that Adolph, Mina and their children all passed away in Alberta, Canada. My mother-in -law was in charge of the cemetary records there for a while. So I will contact her and see if she can find their Headstones or any info. the cemetary might have. It's a small town so it shouldn't be difficult. As for everyone else though, I will need some help. I assume that Adolf and Mina's parents (as well as everyone before them) were all baried in Norway. Let me know what you find. Thanks for helping me out so much! I really do appreciate it! Have a great day!
jwiborgHi Michelle, finding death dates for ancestors are often a very time consuming job if you don't have any idea of when they died. For instance, there are not many online databases containing deaths. Most of them only cover vital records like christening and marriage. The local Bygdebook for the area might contain some info about death year, but your best resource would be the local churchbook, which (as Jo Anne showed you) can be viewed at a local LDS center. That means you have to scan through every page, looking for a name that you would recognize, if you don't have any clue about when they died.... The Norwegian Arkivverket are running a pilot project on the web right now, where they put up images of local (old) Norwegian churchbooks. For the Løten parish in Hedmark, the years 1892-1917 are already published, and you can scan through each page here.
 • Løten prgj: 1892 - 1907, Løten parish, 445 pictures containing christening, marriages, deaths, moving out/in of parish.
 • Løten prgj: 1908 - 1917, Løten parish, 277 pictures containing christening, marriages, deaths, moving out/in of parish.
So if you want to become a "real" genealogist, this is something you'll have to go through yourself... [:)] But atleast I think you've got a really good start! Jan Peter
famgen1Thank you so much for the info! You have really helped a lot! I will go on the hunt for the rest of the info. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
famgen1Hello again! As I was reading through all this information I noticed that there is not much about Ole Evensen (Kildal) and his wife Mathea Pedersdatter. I know about all their kids, but I don't know anything about them. Could you see if there is anything about them?
HopkinsRe-examine that 1900 Norwegian census entry, it gives you some good basic data about that couple. http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=0415&kenr=007&bnr=0013&lnr=00

Ole's father on the marriage record are listed as Evend Olsen, her father reads Peder Andersen. Searching the 1865 census, you should find Ole's mother Lisbet, and Mathea's mother Maria, among others... [:)] Jan Peter

famgen1Hello! Thank you so much for all that information! I kind of want to wander back to to the Adolf Karinus Nordli. We found that his parents were Karinus Andersen and Helene Olsdatter (b.1849). What can you find out about her? This is all so great! Off to the LDS family history center I go to do some research on the microfilm! Hopefully I will find something! I can't say it enough, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
jwiborgHi Michelle, if you scroll back a few messages, you'll find Helene and her parents on the Nordli farm in census-1865. Jan Peter
famgen1Found it! Thanks!
jwiborgGood! [;)] Here is her christening record from 1849: Helene Olsen Birth: - Christening: 05 AUG 1849 Elverum, Hedmark, Norway Parents: Ole Halvorsen & Ragnild Larsdr Link Her father Ole is from Løten, mother Ragnild is from Sweden. famgen1Hi! Isit possible that this is Ole Halvorsen (b.1819) and his parents? http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true In an earlier post talking about Adolf and Helene Olsdatter it says: " Untill 1895 Ole Halvorsen (1819-1895) from Flakstad in Loten lived on a cotter's farm called Nordli." I just want to be sure I'm getting the right people. It looks to me like this could be him and his parents, but I just thought I would double check before checking him off my list.
famgen1Also, Could this be Ole's wife, Ragnhild Larsdatter and her parents? http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true I know the spelling is slightly different on her name, but if she is from Sweeden and immegrated (I assume) to Norway where she met Ole (I assume), couldn't the spelling have changed a little?
DALBThe 1865 census for Nordlie gave a very important clue to finding the birth of Ole Halvorsen in Løiten. I believe this may be his family. birth of Ole Halvorsen *1819 Oct 7 Ole - to Halvor Halvorsen & Olia Pederdatter Flagstad Marriage of Ole's parents, Halvor & Olia 1818 Mar 22 Halvor Halvorsen Flagstad 39 & Olia Pedersdatter 21 birth of Ole's father, Halvor Halvorsen *1778 Oct 25 Halvor to Halvor Olsen & Sigri Olsdatter Flakstad marriage of Halvor Olsen's parents - (his father is a widower - enkm.- enkemand = widower) 1766 Oct 16 enkm. famgen1So then where did Ragnhild Larsdatter go ? I assume she would be OIe's 2nd wife and that Helene was the child they had together. Would I be correct in that thinking? If so, let me know what else you can find. Thank you so much for this. It really helped me figure out who and where Ole came from!
DALBI have nothing on Ragnhild Larsd. Her lineage will be in Sweden. You can check the Inflyttede section of the Elverum parish films to see if you can find out when she came to Elverum. I do not think there has been any data so far to indicate that Ole has been married more than once. You should check the Elverum films to find their marriage and the possible births of other children. They may be older than Helene and not living at home at the time of the 1865 census. Ole and Ragnhild's deaths should also be recorded in a film. Ole Halvorsen's move from Løiten to Elverum may have been at about the age of 12 years old when his widowed mother remarried. I ran across her marriage in the Løiten records, and a few deaths of interest. Ole's father died in 1829 and his mother remarried in 1831. Ole Halvorsen's father's death - 1829 Apr 11 Halvor Halvorsen Flagstad 52 re-marriage of Ole's mother - in Løiten 1831 Nov 17 - Ole Gunnersen Morkhagen Elverum 22 & enken Olea Pedersd. Flagstad 33 Elverum - Ole Gunnersen's birth 1808 Sept 27 Ole to Gunder Olsen & Marthe Olsd. Monkhagen 1801 census at the farm Mørkhagen is a son Gunder Olsen 18, who very likely is Gunder, the father of Ole G who married Olea Pedersd. Flagstad in 1831. Løiten deaths - of Ole Halvorsen's Aunt, Grandfather and Uncle 1789 May 29 Aaste Halvorsd. Flagstad 22 1814 Dec 21 Halvor Olsen Flagstad 86 (Ole's grandfather) 1830 Nov 25 Christian Halvorsen Flagstad 60
famgen1Well hmmm! If the above is Ole Halvorsen's family, then wouldn't that mean that he had to have been married a second time? According to a post from Jan Peter, Ole had a daughter, Helene Olsdatter, with Ragnhild Larsdtr. "From the Elverum bygdebok, volume 4, page 222: In the last century Løken Andersstua had a cotter's farm called Nordli. Until 1895 Ole Halvorsen (1819-1895) from Flakstad in Løten lived there. He was a painter and a cotter with some land. He was married to Ragnhild Larsdtr. (1807-1878) from Östmark in Sweden. By the time of census-1875, also their daughter Helene Olsdatter born 1849 was living on the Nordli farm, with her two children Olaf Antonsen born 1870 and Adolf Karenussen born 1874." I gotta figure out whats up with all this. Does Helene (ine) have any siblings that we can locate? Maybe that would tell us something. In the mean time I'm going to try and find Ragnhild in sweeden. Thanks for all your help!
DALBI have a correction on the posting of 6.10 which starts with - The 1865 census - I re-read it and find I used the wrong patronymic in two places. on the 9th sentence - it should read - marriage of Halvor Halvorsen's parents - and under their children, it should read *1778 Halvor Halvorsen Flakstad ---------- Now to answer your last posting - I agree with what the Bygdebok says - Ole and Ragnhild were married and had a daughter, Helene (who we know is listed at age 17, along with Ole age 47 and Ragnhild age 59 on the 1865 census) and they recorded that on the 1875 census she is still there along with her two children. Yes, Ole & Ragnhild could have had other children. If the ages are correct, Ragnhild had Helene at around age 42. I would check for their marriage record and from that year, check for any other births. So, Ole's daughter is Helene, born in Elverum Ole's wife is Ragnhild, born in Sweden and Ole's parents are Halvor Halvorson Flagstad and Olia Pedersdatter from the Løiten area. If has not been determined that Helene was an only child. While you are checking the Elverum records, you can check for any siblings.
famgen1Did the people ever keep a history of the land or histor of the people in a certain area? Kind of like one big book with biographies about all the families in one area? A lot of the information I had to start out with came from a book like that, so I thought maybe the Nords did it too. I guess I'm just curious about who my ancestors were and what kind of lives they led. A book lik that or something similar to it would be great to have. Is there anything like that, that I could get or do research in?
HopkinsWhat certain area? Some areas have bygdeboker - others don't.
famgen1Loten, Aamot, Ramedal, places within Hedmark are what I'm looking for.
ABellThe Canadian Library and Archive "Western Land Grant" Database lists an Adolph Norlie as homesteading on NE-18-32-16-W4. I believe this is a few miles NW of Hanna, Alberta. The survey system for Alberta is similar to the US, but the sections are numbered from S-N starting on the SE corner of the township. I believe the US system is different. http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s2=&s3=&s4=&s5=W4&s6=Norlie&s1=&Sect4=AND&l=20&Sect1=IMAGE&Sect2=THESOFF&Sect4=AND&Sect5=FL15PEN&Sect6=HITOFF&d=FL15&p=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.collectionscanada.ca%2Farchivianet%2F02011102_e.html&r=0&f=S
HopkinsWhen I want to look for bygdebøker I always check the LDS library catalog online - using a book that they've copied to microfilm or microfiche is always an inexpensive way to use these resources. But they have more bygdebøker on the shelves in Salt Lake City than they've copied to microform and I can use the publication information in the library catalog to apply for InterLibrary Loan of the book(s) at my local public library. In the last few years I've also begun collecting copies of the actual books from those areas where I had ancestors live. I've purchased them from Norway by either contacting the administrative offices of the kommune/district or searching through Scandinavian used book store availability lists and then contacting the store which happens to have a copy of an old or out-of-print issue that I really want. For Hedmark I suggest that after you've checked the LDS library catalog (http://www.familysearch.org) study the information for that area and the resources available for it at this website - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/hedmark.html My personal notes for the specific areas you've mentioned indicate these possibilities. Åmot - "Åmot Bygdebok", 3 volumes by Eyvind Lillevold. Løten - "Løtenboka. Garder og slekter", 3 volumes by J. B. Morthoff. Romedal - "Romedalboka: garder og slekter" 5 volumes by Bjarne Morthoff and Jacob Sverre Løland.
famgen1I was wondering if there might be any info on Karinus Andersen's (b.1847) parents, Anders Johannesen and Marthe Gundersdatter ? I'm kinda stuck here. Thank you in advance!
famgen1Is it possible that more of the Norlie family immegrated to the U.s ? I know we had talked about Mina staying with Adolf Rom's family when she arrived in N.Dakota, but I can't seem to find any record of the ROM family immegrating. Could you possible check that out for me ? I know Adolf Norlie and Adolf Rom (aka olson) arrive in 1908 on the ship Lucania, and that Mina and her two dtrs arrived on the ship United States in 1909. But when did Adolf Rom's family immegrate?
famgen1I found a ship manifest with Adolf Rom on it. It's dateof arrival is on March 9th, 1922. It also says in place of residence, "Craigmyle, Alta,Canada. On line 30 it says in place of destination "To brother in law Adolf Nordli". Now by this time Adolf was living in Alberta, but why did he go back to Norway? Why was his destination to his Brother in law if his family was there in Canada/ N.Dakota ?
famgen1I found Anne Rom from Loiten here: http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipManifest.asp?MID=03477074850192252896&LNM=ROM&PLNM=ROM&last_kind=0&RF=370&pID=101807030468& It says the ticket was paid by her father, but that is all I could make out. Can see anything different?
famgen1I was searching some of the LDS files for Anders Johannesen and Marthe Gundersdatter. I don't have a valid birth or christening date for either of them so I just guessed a round about year based on other people on the family tree, and this is what I found: http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=ancestorsearchresults.asp http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=ancestorsearchresults.asp Could this be a possibility for Karinus Andersen's (b.1847) parent's ? Let me know what you think. I really appreciate your help! Sorry I'm all over the place today! Have a good one!
famgen1Could Evend be another name for Anders ? I mean as far as first names for males go. If it is, than is there anyway to verify a marriage of Anders Olsen and Lisbet Hansdatter (M. 30 Oct. 1838) in Vang, Hedmark, Norway?
DALBThe Family Search URL's you have sent do not come through. Re-check the IGI file in Family Search. The marriage of Even Olsen and Lisbet Hansdatter is listed - 23 Mar 1843 Furnes, Hedmark, Norway (he is 25 and she is 27, which fits their ages on the 1865 census) Under births Their son Hans Evensen on 14 Feb 1855 at Loten It gives you the film numbers for both entries.
famgen1Thanks so much! I dont know why I wasn't finding them. I got them now though! Thanks for the help! Any ideas about any of the other stuff I posted? If not, I appreciate it anyway! Have a good one!
