Fm Lier, Norway to Leer, Alpena Co., Michigan
kjenterI am very new to Norwegian genealogy. It is my mom's line. I have been doing German genealogy, my father's line for about 12 years, so I know German script, but do not know any Norwegian My ancestors from Norway were among the 5 Norwegian families to settle in Leer, Alpena Co, and Alpena, Alpena Co., Michigan in the late 1860's. I found this forum by searching the internet for Lier to Leer. On this site I found this answer: You do not give many clues, but by searching the Digitalarkivet for emigrants out of Kristiania, I find 41 persons from Lier going to Michigan, mainly Port Huron and Alpena, where such info is given. Børge Solem I belive my ancestors are among these 41. I don't read Norwegian, and cannot figure out this Digitallarkivet site. Can someone help me with these 41 people. Names I am looking for from Lier are Ottersen, and Olesen and Olsen. I can provide farm names if needed. Thanking you in advance. Karen JENTER Michigan
jwiborgGo here and do a search for Destination starting on alp. You will get 111 hits, and almost all of them are from the Lier/Drammen area. You can also do a search like this: Residence contain lier and last name contain ot That will give you 4 hits: 15.xx.1903 Karl Anton Ottosen Øverby (20) from Lier going to Wisconsin 06.03.1903 Svend Aamot (22) from Lier going to Minnesota 18.05.1906 Gunder Ottos. Lyngaas (17) from Lier going to Chicago 13.04.1928 Aagot Ottersen (b.08-sep-1907) from Lier going to Canada Because the Oslo emigration are in two overlaping databases, you should check out the Christiania one also... HolwellHello Karen I see you are serching for people from Lier, emigrating in the late 1860's. I'm born and live in Lier, so if you could give me some names/farms to look for, I might be able to help you. The "bygdebook" for Lier, which contains farm history is online at: http://lier.kommune.no/liers-historie/ It's i Norvegian.
