Canadian passenger lists
Teppie19	After a discussion with a cousin, we are thinking that our ancestors might have come though Canada to get to Minnesota. Anybody know how to find and search efficiently through passenger lists from Canada? I am looking for Karl Tapio(b 1859), his wife Hilda (b1866)and two children Christian (b 1884) and Clara (b 1887). I know that they came over when Clara was a baby. So we are thinking late 1887 or early 1888 they came over. Anybody know how to help me? thanks, Steph
Hopkins	I've used microfilmed Canadian passenger arrival lists which I ordered and used at the nearest LDS Family History Center to my home. You can check for what years are included and see how many films the time period 1887-1888 might involve by studying the online LDS library catalog. Passenger lists of arrivals from 1865-1900 are available on those film, only the years 1865-1869 have been indexed. If you go to the library catalog online and do a search by film/fiche number try entering the film number " 0889458" (without the quotes) - that should take you quickly to the correct section of the catalog to see what other films are available about that particular place and topic. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp Perhaps your cousin and yourself could "divide" the task of the film reading - one of you ordering the 1887 film and the other the 1888 film.
ABell	Check out Canada Library and Archives at the following link: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/022-908.003-e.html I have viewed some Canadian passenger list microfilms for the period from 1882 to 1884. Some images are crisp and sharp. Unfortunately some are marginal, and some are totally illegible. It would help if you knew the port of departure and/or port of arrival. I noticed that at the end of each year on the microfilms, there was a summary of ship arrivals for the ports.
