Jon Britanus Knudsen Hjelle
NilsRuneHello! I'm looking for information about my great grandfathers brother, Jon Britanus Knudsen Hjelle. His father were Knut Torbjørnsson and his mother were Berte Karine Hansdatter. He had two brothers and one sister. The brothers were Hans Zakarias (my great grandfather) and Ole Hjelle. His sister were named Torine Karine. He was born 28th of September 1858 in Volda, Norway and left for America 1881. When he came to America he settled in Fargo, North Dakota. Any help will be very much appreciated. Nils Rune Hjelle, Norway

Thanks so much for your answers, but I have reason to believe that you might have the wrong guy. After I posted my thread I came over a document his father had wrote in 1903, and that document clearly stated that John had died (the document stated how they devided the money left after him within the family in Norway). This leads me to think that he died a year or maybe two before 1903. And the amount of money that were sent home (3300,00NOK = 470 USD today) tells me he most likely didn't have any family over there. I have looked trough the 1900-census for Fargo, ND without getting any matches for him, which again leads me to think: A - he died before 1900 or B - He had moved to another place. The name Ricland has come up a few times, but I haven't had any luck finding him there either.
