passengers on Werra arriving NY March 1890
LisaKit MatulichSeeking passenger list on this ship. My grandfather was a passenger
Jo Anne SadlerYou should find him on this free database: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/eidb/
LisaKit MatulichJoAnn, Thanks for the suggestion, but the ship arrived 3-18-1890 before Ellis Island on-line records and the only Werra manifest on the website is for 1892. So I am still looking for a passenger list from the 1890 arrival. Thanks, anyway!
HopkinsEllis Island wasn't opened until 1892 - earlier New York arrivals would have been through Castle Garden or the Barge Office. You could consult US National Archives or LDS Family History Library microfilms. http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/nylists1820.html The webpage also mentions that there is an online availability - but not free - http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/passengers.html
Jo Anne SadlerOh, my goodness, I knew that!![:I] Here is the free Castle Garden website but it is not quite complete and does not link to the actual passenger manifest: http://www.castlegarden.org/ The NY passenger microfilm for March 18, 1890 is #1027780 and can be rented at a local Family History Center. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?first=625&display=titlefilmnotes&titleno=60951&disp=Passenger%2525252Blists%2525252Bof%2525252Bvessels%2525252Barriving%2525252Bat%2525252BN%2525252B%2525252B&last=674&columns=*%2C0%2C0 Castle Garden closed on April 18, 1890 and until the Ellis Island Immigration Station opened in 1892, all passengers were processed at the Barge Office in New York Harbor.
