askeroi	I have never heard of a town called something like that. And it's much more likely that it is a FARM name than a town name. But of course no farms is called something "un-norwegian" as that. Maybe it originally was "Løvås"? That's a rather common farm name - in the 1900 cencus there were 47 "løvås" farms spread throughout norway. Do you have any idea of where or in which part of Norway he came from? askeroi

askeroi	I have received your e-mail and as soon as I get home I will forward it to the grandson - and his mail to you. In the cencus they are listed as going on 35 (him, born ca 1831) and 34 (her, born ca 1832), their sons Halvor Olai (12, born ca 1854), Niels Johan (10, born ca 1856) and John Andreas (1, born 1865) They had 1 horse, 8 cows and 23 sheep. They grew potatoes and - ah "bygg" and "havre" which I can't translate without looking in my dictionary at home. askeroi

Is the census on websites there in Norway, or do you have to go to a building there such as a city court house or office or goverenment building? Could you explain Sveio(Sveen)for me? askeroi	hopefully you've got in touch by now. Ca, short for circa = about, approximately. Havre and bygg are more difficult to find in the dictionay, but it's two kinds of grain (corn). Havre is oats, and hopefully bygg is barley (unless barley is a kind of building which also is a bygg in norwegian). Did I confuse you? The 1801, 1865 and 1900 cencus' are available on the net, yes.
