how can i find my great gradnfather Olie Hansey?
marnie	hi...my great grandfather, known as olie hansey in the usa married heggie wraa in sthoughton ohio. from reading old pictures and postcards, they had 5 children - carl, john, rackel, mary and my grandmother, delia hansey. he apparnelty left norway from oslo. i would really appreciate it if any one can find his family in norway. thanks in advance.marnie
Hopkins	You must have some ages and years for other events in his life and more information to be able to find where in Norway he was from. In the 1910 US census widowed 58 yr old Ole Hansey lives in Marshall County Minnesota and lists that he immigrated to the US in 1874, several of the children you mentioned still live in his household (all born in Minnesota) In the 1900 US census of Marshall County, MN Ole Hansey lists himself as born Oct 1852 in Norway, immigrated 1869. His wife is listed as Helga, born July 1867 in Minnesota and all the children are also born Minnesota. That census will give you names of at least one or two additional children. It might be of interest that in the 1910 census for Marshall County there is a Wisconsin born John E. Wraa, married to a woman named Anna Maria. John lists that his parents were both from Norway and Anna was born in Norway. They have a number of children BUT in their household also lives a Berta Maria Hensey - mother-in-law. Neither Anna or Berta have given any information about their immigration year in this particular census. You might find much more information about Ole/Olie in records of Marshall County, Minnesota and the Red River valley area. Church records, birth records, death records, obituaries, censuses (federal and state), county/town/church published histories, etc. Minnesota Death Records Index online indicates a number of 'Hansey' persons who died in Marshall County - details of those records might also give you additional information.
marnie	hi..thank you ever so much...all my grandmother's correspondance was from Stephen (town)and Warren (township) , Marshall county..so i assume that is him. my grandmother's delayed birth certificate (dated 16th. September 1957 from minnesota states her mother, his wife, named hegge (wraa) hansey was born in stoughton wisconsin (no date) and died 22 Nov 1908 which would make him a widower in 1910. the same document states he died 21 nov 1940 in stephen mn. i had looked at the mn records as you mentioned but didn't have the right dates. i have no other information about him...only my grandmother came to canada - all i can try to do is phone some hanse'ys in mn. once again....you have my appreciation for all the info. now...if i could only find my islandic and swedish greatgrandparents! marnie

marnie	hi..i have found additional info re: ole hansey, my great grandfather. i never met him as he died before i was born and grandma did not talk about him. i did meet some 'cousin's from the states-norma is the olyl name i remember . he was born oct 12 1851 in norway, emirated to america at age 15, settling in rushford minn. in 1875 he married hegge wraa (in rushford) and in 1880 moved to stephen, minn. hegge died 22 nov 1908 and ole J. hansey died 21 Nov 1940 , aged 89 at fergus falls hospital minn. ole and hegge had 14 children, of which only 4 survived ole's death - carl -born 8 march 1886/died 23 mar 1942; john, born 5 jan 1902 /died 22 sept 1966; (they lived in minn), rakkel , born 1 august, 1891/died 12 jan 1969; and my gradnmother, delia (hansey)walld, born 4 april 1888/died 30 july 1969 in winnipeg man.ca. any further information on my grandfather and his family in norway would be appreciated as would any info on his descendants - the children of carl, john, and rakkel's or descendents of the other ten children whose names i do not know. again, thanks in advance. marnie eastman
