Occupation billedhhugger?
jwknudsenThe 1900 Hisų census lists my grandfather's occupation as Billedhugger (sculptor?). http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f00922&gardpostnr=428&personpostnr=2458&merk=2458#ovre I never heard of my grandfather working in anything but the sheet metal trade (his last major project was stainless steel work atop New York's Chrysler Building). He was also a tinkerer and smalltime inventor on the side. But a sculptor...? Is the term billedhugger strictly related to fine-arts, or does it also shade into more artisanal crafts? Thanks, JK John Knudsen New York, NY USA
BorgeYes, the translation would be "Sculptor". If he was not an artist he could be working for an artist, or he could have been working on church restoration projects and such, more like a stone cutter.
