PETRA (Theresa) LARSON married GEORGE HUGILL December 13th, 1902 in Duluth, Minnesota, USA Methodist Episcopal Minister - Samuel P. Long I am trying to find ANY family of PETRA LARSON (Theresa/Tressa LARSON) She was born in Norway.. Abt. 1878 She had beautiful Red hair and had a thick accent She went by the name of Theresa or Tressa Larson. She was only married to George Hugill for 11 months, before her husband was killed. We don’t know if she remarried……….. She married George Hugill in Duluth, St. Louis Co. Minnesota on December 13th, 1902 Petra was 25 at the time of her marriage Address listed for George Hugill - 230 E. Superior from the Duluth Directory in 1901. He was a member of the Missabe Lodge No. 222 - I.O.O.F. George and Petra had a son, William Hugill born in 1903 in Duluth, Minnesota. William Hugill Abt. 1908 in Michigan Raised by his Aunt – Mary Ellen Hugill - McGregor On Nov. 12, 1903- Wed. morning at 8:30 George was killed in a train accident, in Virginia, (just north of Duluth) St. Louis Co., Minnesota. He was 32 years old. The Virginia Paper Headlines Read: "Died Under the Wheels" "The unfortunate man slipping and falling from a load of logs while the train was in motion." He was a brakeman for the Duluth, Virginia and Rainy Lake Railway later acquired by the Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railroad. Then the Canadian National Railway. (one of the most dangerous jobs with the railroad ) His only child (William) was 7 months old... George Hugill was raised in northern Michigan (Alcona Co.) He left Michigan on his own for Minnesota where he met and married Petra Larson. The Hugill's came from England to (York Co./Bruce Co./Huron Co. Ontario, Canada) to Alcona Co., Michigan. (Harrisville area) In December, 1903 George's widow, Petra (Theresa) LARSON took their 8 month old baby boy, William (Bill) Hugill back to Michigan (Alcona Co.) to George Hugill's younger sister - Mary Ellen. Petra left her baby with her sister-in-law and told her she'd come back for him when she could look after him. SHE WAS NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN! That was 99 years ago! One family story was that Petra/Theresa left her baby in Michigan, went back to Minnesota for a short time - She was next seen, by some Hugill family members in MILDMAY, Bruce/Huron Co. area…..ONTARIO, Canada. George Hugill still had relatives in this area. A Great Aunt said she married a man from this area with the last name of Vollick, Vorlick/Varlick/Vlcek/? William Hugill never knew his mother or why his mother never came back for him.......He never got over his mother leaving him.....He talked about it all his life... William's son, Don has been searching for 35 years for Petra Theresa Larson.. .Before the internet, writing letters etc. .Someone out there must know what happened to Petra Thresa Larson…. Who were Petra's parents? Siblings? Who was her second husband? Not much to go on, but I am determined to help my Uncle Don, find out what happened to the Grandmother he never knew.
