Mons Hendriksen Lie
jimpat50I am trying to find what eventually happened to my great, great grandfather. He was born at Evanger, Hordaland, Norway in 1796 and married Ingeborg Askjelddtr in 1828. They had at least 2 children Henrik 1844 and Ingeborg somewhat later. They emigrated to America about 1856. We think they went first to Wisconsin and then to Iowa. Hendrik joined the Union Army in 1864 from Iowa. We think Mons died in about 1863, but have been unable to find any evidence that he ever lived in the US. Would appreciate any help.
Jean MarthalerAccording to the Evangerboka, page 644, Mons Henrikson and his wife Ingebjørg Askjelsdatter immigrated to America in 1859. The Evangerboka says they had children Anna born in 1830, Maria born in 1834, Ingebjørg born in 1839 and Henrik born in 1844. If you look at the family below in the 1880 census who I am thinking is probably Hendrik and his family, you will see the Widow Ingeborg Monson living with them. This would be a pretty close match in age for Ingeborg. The Evangerboka says she was born in 1809. This would all tend to make me believe that Mons and Ingeborg did immigrate to America. This is from the Vesterheim Civil War website: MONSEN, Henrik From Voss, Norway. Civil War: Private. Post war: Lived at Clarkfield, Minnesota. veblen74I have forwarded your information onto my sister, Anne Orton. She has more information on our family history than I do. Henrik Monson was my great-great-grandfather. We have copies of his enlistment papers into the civil war. After the war he settled in Yellow Medicine County and was the first mayor of Clarkfield MN. One of his children was my great-grandmother, Belle Monson. Belle married Peter Anderson.
