ReneeThank you for your help. I do have some of this information that you sent, but thank you. Do you know how I can find out the name of the ship that Gunhild came to America on? I know she arrived in 1883. Her brother Johan immigrated to America in 1890.
Jo Anne SadlerYou need find her in the moving out register of her parish church records to find out exactly when she signed out to leave. Here is a possibility but her age is 20, not 16 which she would be according to the baptism record. She is listed next to a Halvor Kristiansen. They are from Høland, do not know where that is. click here The Thingvalla arrived at the Port of New York on April 23, 1883 from Copenhagen via Gotebørg: Gunhild Johanson, age 20, Norwegian, destination U.S. There is information and pictures on this site of the Thingvalla.
kaare nHello As Jo said the age is not right and it is also strange that she leaves from Gothenburg Sweden, but in the year 1883 there was bossily. Hobøl is from Dovre (it is in south Norway, Østfold ( I believe, not sure)) Not fare away from Sweden( maybe she had a boy friend that was not in the parish register. (not a new t……) I have tried to find hers emigration (believe me, I have tried) I have tried to seek her in the record on the internet. But no luck yet! I will try more. I have tried to seek in the parish church as Jo Anne says, no luck. Tried to get true the emigration record from Norway fore 1883 no luck. Are you sure on the year she arrived to US? Have you found her immigration to us pleas post that. Also if you found her in Us census, post that. I have also looked after her brother. No luck so fare. Kåre still in Norway PS Have you any more information’s??

ReneeKaare, thank you. I do have this information and thank you for helping me. I travelled to Norway last June and met several of my second cousins and visited my grandmother's church and farm in Dovre. What I'm looking for now is the information of when she came to the United States and the name of the ship. It could have been between 1881 and 1884. She changed her name to Julia Johnson in the United States. She married in 1891 and yes I've found her in the 1900, 1910, 1920 census in North Dakota and in the 1930 census in Los Angeles County, California. She and my grandfather lived next door to me. She died in 1941. I don't believe that is my grandmother (Gunhild Johanson). Remee
