Sigrid and Bertha Olsdatter Kellerud
James E HegWe have been searching for information on #13, EMILIE, 1840, namely Anthon Johannesen. His mother was Bertha Olsdatter Kellerud. (#10). Bertha was the sister of Sigrid (#4), the wife of Even Hansen (Heg) (#3). We have drawn a blank in searching the Lier area. A light recently went on. Those two ladies were born in Flesberg. Sigrid on 21 October 1797. Bertha, about 1802. It seems quite likely that the Johannes Evensen family came from Flesberg - some miles west of Lier, as I recall. What is Known: The parents of the two ladies were Ole Gullixsen Kallerud and Anne Olsdatter Ramnaas. Can we find any records in Flesberg about these people? Is there any clue there as to why the Johannesen family took the name Skofstad after migrating? BTW - Emilie manifest gives Sigrid's age as 40. Her birthdate would indicate she was 43. Also, did I send you a correction for Andrea (#7)? She was a girl.

James E HegThank you Jo Anne, you are always helpful. That census view you brought up shows quite a diiferent age than we have. Now I need some education. How do I go about getting to view these records? Are there no other census records before their departure in 1840? Also, Can anyone shed some light on their name change to Skofstad?
kaare nI do not know of anymore census betewen 1801 and 1865 fore Flesberg. Here is a link to Flesberg in Buskerud http://www.disnorge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=100207
Jo Anne SadlerThis is what is available on Digitalarkivet for Flesberg: Flesberg And for Lier: Lier As far as the name, I believe stad means place. There is no exact name of Skofstad in the 1801 or 1865 census, there are some variations of that name but none in Buskerud. On Surname Navigation, only a couple of entries for Skofstad: http://www.surnamenavigator.org/
Jean MarthalerJames, have you seen the pages for this family in the Norwegian Immigrants to the United States by Gerhard B. Naeseth, Volume 1. They are listed on pages 97 and 98. It shows the husband of Bertha Olsdatter Kallerud as Johannes Evenson Skofstad. It says Johannes Evenson's parents are Even Olsen Otterstad and Anne Christiansdatter Skofstad. Since his mother lived at some time on Skofstad they may have also lived on Skofstad. Let me know if you want me to scan these two pages and send to you. There is a nice amount of information listed on Bertha and Sigrid and their families. JEAN
James E HegJean - I would most appreciate having the two pages. I met Prof Nęseth many years ago. He gave me a book about Lier and suggested I get busy on my family history. About 25 years later, I took his advice. Ergo, NorwayHeritage. Canyou scan them and send by e-amil or should I send you an address? Thank you. Jim
Jean MarthalerJim, hi, I will gladly scan them and send them to you. Send me an e-mail at marwendt@astound.net so I can get your e-mail address. Jean
