Bindingbo, Norway
Becky BrechI am trying to locate on a map where might be Bindingbo. I believe it to be at or near Vaksdal. I am not sure if it is just the name of a farm or if it is actually a town. My siblings and I hope to travel to Norway in the near future and hope to find out where our ancesters lived. Any help would be much appreciated!

Jean MarthalerBecky, There is a Bindingbø farm in Vaksdal which is right on the edge of the Voss, Hordaland area. The farm and the history of the people who have lived on the Bindingbø farm are covered in the book called Evangerboka, Band 1, by Lars Schjærven and Johannes Gjerdåker. I have this book and if you let us know who your ancestors are I will gladly scan the pages and send them to you. My great great grandfather came from the Voss area and I have many genealogy resources from the area. This past spring 2005 I participated in the Voss Heritage Tour which was sponsored by the Vosselag. We spent a week in Voss touring family farms and participating in the Sytennde Mai celebration etc. This coming August the Vosselag is again helping promote the Sogn/Voss Heritage tour. The tour is August 1-13 and we will be in Voss for 3 of those days. I will be helping set up farm tours to the tour participants family farms. If this is something you would be interested in learning more about just let me know and I will give you the contact information. Bindingbø is right on the edge of the Voss area and is in the area we would cover for the tour. Please let us know who your ancestors are and I will see if they are in the book. Thank you, JEAN
Becky BrechTo Jean Marthaler: My ancesters are Simon Andersson Bindingbo born 1800. He married in 1830 Ingebjorg Johannesdatter Straume(or from Straume) born 1804. Their daughter, Brita, born in 1830, married Anders Einerson Tyssen(born 1820) in 1851. Brita and Anders' daughter Ingeborg(born in 1851 or possibly 1853 as I have conflicting records) married Jon Straume(born 1849). John and Ingeborg emigrated to the United States--living first in Minnesota. John and Ingeborg were my great-grandparents and their name was changed to Stromme when they came to the U.S.
