Amundsen - Aasen, family connection?
japaul22Hi! I have a family story that we are related to Roald Amundsen through my GG grandmother, Regine Aasen. The story is that Aasen was changed from Amundsen. Regine lived 25 Apr 1865 to 27 May 1943 in Sarpsborg, Norway. Her married name was Regine Jensen. Her father's name was Anders Aasen who lived from 1836 until after 1936 (my grandfather remembers being in Norway for his 100th birthday!). Is there any way there could be an Amundsen connection? If anyone has seen the names Regine or Anders in their Amundsen family trees, I'd love some information. My name is Jennifer and my email address is jennifer_warnke@hotmail.com. Thanks!
Jo Anne SadlerThere have been alot of recent postings on this matter on the Ancestry.com message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/an/surnames.amundsen Have you read the article on this site about - Those Norwegian Names? It covers Norwegian naming practices. The patronomynic naming practices were in use in 1872 when Amundsen was born but being upper class this did not always apply, his father was Jens Amundsen. The only way you can prove a connection is by researching Roald Amundsen's family tree and his siblings and their descendants and tracing your ggrandmother back.
