HopkinsA 17 Feb 2006 posting by Carol Ulberg to John Follesdal's guestbook at 'Ancestors From Norway' website - "Location: Samoa Comments: Hi everyone. Im trying to find out whereabouts my great grandfathers family are from and are there any living relatives at the moment. The last I heard, a Bruno and Renata visited Samoa back in 1980 or 1981. Please anyone any information would be greatly appreciated. Im sorry but I only have my greatgranddads name but no birthdate. His name was Peter Christian Ulberg from Oslo Norway. God bless you all." A 17 March 2004 posting by Tessie Weir to Genealogy.com's Norway Genealogy Forum with link to response - "I have recently discovered that my great great grandfather was born in Ornslow(Oslo)Norway January 1832 and would like to obtain a copy of his Birth certificate. I was informed that any Birth record in Norway in the early 1800 has to be obtained from a Church Record of babtismal, since the earliest record in the Updated Database in Norway is in 1925.Do I need to contact all church records in the area of oslo from 1800 that is still operating?? I also discovered some Farms in Norway name Ulberg which is my Great great grandfathers last name. His full name is Peter Christian Ulberg, could a person born on farm use the Farm name for a last name?? If anyone has any information about obtaining a birth certificate I'd really appreciate the info or any relation.Peter Christian was married to So'onafai Maria De Carmel in Western Samoa 1869 and died in Western Samoa in 1899." http://genforum.genealogy.com/norway/messages/9063.html On the 22 July 2004 someone listing themselves as 'uso' also posted a query about the Ulbergs of Western Samoa - http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=localities.oceania.samoa.wsamoa&m=36.2 I was hoping that a posting somewhere would give such additional information as WHEN Peter Ulberg arrived in Samoa or New Zealand, which first if both? Did he have any particularly unique occupation (blacksmith??), etc.
