Marit Halstensdatter Eggen
marit35	Marit and brother Peter came to US in 1862 leaving from Trondheim, Norway. They lived on Eggen farm and sister Oliva came two yearfs later. She was born in 1842 and her brother in 1846. Parents were Halsten Eggen born in 1814 and mother Bereth Jacobsdatter born 1809. Does anyone have any information on the Norwegian family or name of sail boat they came on?
Brining	This is probably Halsten and Bereth (Beret) living on Eggen nordre, Tønset, Hedmark in the 1865 census. marit35	Carla, Thanks so much for info you sent. Peder is son of Halston and Berit and came to this country with Marit, his sister, around 1862 leaving from sail boat from Trondheim. I'd like to know name of boat and where it arrived? Peder was born April 24, 1846. He changed his name to Hanson when in US and later went to Canada to live with his family. Just learned this information. Are there earlier census records prior to 1865? Have to get someone to translate for me but I was most interested in marriage record between Berit and Halsten. Any way to get more details from record othere than date of their wedding? Thanks for your help. Marit
Hopkins	You could look at the microfilmed copy of the original marriage record (birth/baptismal records, leaving the parish entries, etc) by visiting the closest LDS Family History Center and ordering microfilm copies of the parish church records for a limited time period which you can study on the microfilm reader(s) they have available. You'll learn more about that in one of the articles included in the links above.
Jo Anne Sadler	If you look at the index of departures on this site, voyages from Norway/Hull went directly to Quebec. There are no Canadian passenger lists available (a few newspaper accounts survive) before 1865. The church records should include the "moving out" records and you can determine the dates they left and if it was 1865 or later you can rent the Canadian passenger lists. If it was before 1865 using the data on this site you can "guesstimate" the ship they came on. The dictionary link that Hopkins gave you is very good for reading old church records. They are not narratives, a few basic words and you can figure them out, the handwriting is usually quite readable.
