Descendants of Ole Ulver in US
LineMy great great grandfather Ole Benjaminsen Ulver (b. 1856 in Hitra, Norway) emigrated in 1907 to US, to work in South Dakota. Two of his sons, Ingvald Benjamin Olsen Ulver and Ole Konrad Olsen Ulver followed him in 1908. Ingvald got married to Ida Peterson (b. 1889 in Norway) and stayed in US. Ole Konrad went back to Norway abt. 1909. According to family members their father was determined to go back together with his son Ole Konrad. For some reason (he got ill?) he didnīt, and he never came back to Norway. There were some contact between the family in Norway and Ida and her grandson about 1967-1969. According to Ida there were no contact at all between Ingvald and his father after 1908/-09, and Ingvald believed that his father had gone back to Norway. Ingvald died abt. 1917. In Minnesota Death index I find that one Ole Ulver died in 1930 in Kandiyohi. My question: 1) How can I find out more about my great great grandfathers life in US? 2) How can I get in touch with any descendant of Ingvald and Ida (I have some surnames of their children and a couple of their grandchildren, in the sixties they lived in California, South Dakota and Florida). I will be grateful of any help or tips of how I can proceed my search. Line
Jo Anne SadlerIn Digitalarkivet Emigrants from Trondheim, I have found Ole B. Ulv'r leaving in 1907 and Ole K. Olsen Ulv'r leaving in 1908 but no Ingvald. I did find this in the 1920 census: 1920 - Clarkfield, Yellow Medicine, MN Ingvald Olsen, 45, immigrated 1892, naturalized 1897, laborer state road. Ida, 47, born Sweden, immigrated 1892. Oscar, 24, born MN Esther M. 14, born MN Ella C., 11, born MN Henry E., 9, born MN If this is the right family, Oscar was born in MN in 1896 so Ingvald would have immigrated earlier than thought and was alive in 1920. Did they go by Olsen/Olson? Or are these names just a coincidence?

LineThanks alot for your effort to help in my case. I think I mislead you a bit by not writing all I know about Ingvald Benjamin. He travelled together with his brother Ole Konrad in 1908, the ref.number in digitalarkivet is 135436. I have found that they used the name Ulver in US, by searching this name on the web. I can find Ole (the father), Ingvald (also registered as Ingvold and Engvald), Ida, and some others, who might be their children (Edwin/Erwin, Olel/Obel and Clarie/Claire), in different searches. I know a few things about the Ingvald/Ida - family, written in some letters from Ida to a cousin in Norway back in the sixties. I would like to get in touch with any living Ingvald/Ida descendants, but I donīt know how. Their children will probably be dead by now. It appears to be other Ulver families with Scandinavian origin (the first names of the elderly family members sounds Scandinavian) in Montana, Minnesota and other states. Ulver is not a common name in Norway, and I have never heard any stories of other Ulver relatives going to US, other than Ole and his two sons. The other great mystery is that my great great grandfather Ole Benjaminsen Ulver seems to have lived in US for about 20 years, appearantly without any contact with his family. I have thougt about trying to get his death certificate, but I donīt know how to proceed.
Jo Anne SadlerHow did I miss Ingvald?[:I] There are instructions on the MN Death Index to order the Death Certificate, a little confusing but it works.
BriningHave you seen this record for Clarie Ulver on the LDS? jwiborgOk; so Ingvald B. Ulver & Ida E. M. Peterson's daughter Clarie A. Ulver (1909-1978) married Raymond L. Sheldon (1904-1968). Clarie is born in S. Dakota, and died in Tampa, Hillsborough,Florida. Raymond is born in Kansas, and died in Long Beach, California. So; did Claire move to Tampa as a widow? I guess if they have any childen, they would be named Sheldon? Anywho.com shows 5 Sheldon's living in Long Beach, CA 90802 today. 9 Sheldon's are living in Tampa, Florida, including one Raymond Sheldon...
