tomo150	I am searching for a great grandfather named Charles Thompson. Legend has it that he was a Norwegian who jumped ship in Australia. He was born in 1854 and his father was Thomas. Unfortunately that is all I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[;)] Searching the norwegian 1865-census, I found only two persons named something like Charles Thompson, even if you take into considerations all the different spellings that occurs in the census. Parents: Thomas Haakensen & Hellene Christiansdatter. If you're sure his father was named Thomas, it looks like the person you're seeking is the one from Storsveen farm in Vestre Toten, Oppland county. However, Vestre Toten is deep inland, while Kristiansand is a coastal city, so it would make more sense if he jumped ship in Christiansand... [B)] Jan Peter
tomo150	Thank you Jan at least I now have two names to check for 'desertion' on records here in Australia. Charles Thompson married here in Australia in 1884, is it possible to check if those two names were on a 'census' in that year. Once again thanks for you assistance. Tomo150
