Carl Thommas Berg from Magnor 1879
nucmedtekSeeking information on Carl Thommas Berg who was born in Magnor in 1879. Emigrated to the US (year unknown) and settled in Minnesota. Married Ingeborg Bella Gysler, had 4 children, and, I believe, died in Saskatchewan,Canada.
BriningHow sure are you of the birth year? The Canadian 1911 census has him born in 1873 (which could be wrong [:0]) but in the Digitalarkivet there is Karl Th. Berg age 21 emigrating in 1893 from Eidskog Click Here Carla
ninakarlsMagnor is located in Eidskog. The emigrant gives his occupation as merchant. That could indicate that Johan Berg is his father. nucmedtekPossibilities abound. His mother's name was ELI KJøstelsdatter STUMOEN. I will have to re-check my data on his emigration date.
HopkinsHow much other information do you have about this man that you are withholding?? You say you are seeking information - what exactly do you already have and EXACTLY what is the purpose of not sharing that? You actually knew his mother's name but decided that wasn't important???
nucmedtekI just received that information on his mother's name this morning. All I had prior to that was her first name, Eli. I think that I would have included it if I had known it was that important. [:I] Mea Culpa ... Fogive me .... and thanks for all the awesome work you guys do.[^]
jwiborgWell, then it looks like you have the right guy in this Carl Thomas Olsen, christening: 07 APR 1872. Nationality says the US, so he is just home on a visit. Occupation reads clerk. Sigvard is from Strøms parish, Hedmark. (Strøm was divided into Sør-Odal & Nord-Odal in 1819). Eli is from Eidskog, Hedmark. Ole Sigvards parents could be Berger Bergersen & Maren Rebeca Engebretsdr Berger Bergersen has shortened his lastname to Bergh in census-1865, and moved to Christiania. They have these children born in Nord-Odal: Torkild Bergersen, Christening: 26 DEC 1819, Nord Odal, Hedmark. Engebret Bergersen, Christening: 05 FEB 1822, Nord Odal, Hedmark Caroline Beata Bergersen, Christening: 28 FEB 1824, Nord Odal, Hedmark Jan Peter
nucmedtekThanks again for all your hard work Jan Peter. I really appreciate it very much. It seems after putting these links into the tree that Carl Thomas Berg was a 2nd cousin to his wife Ingeborg Bella Gysler as her grandmother was Maren Kjøstelsdatter Stumoen, sister of Eli Kjøstelsdatter.
jwiborgHi, could it be Stubmoen in Søndre Odalen parish (Sør-Odal, Hedmark)? Kjøstel Hansen is the owner of Stubmoen in 1838, according to the landregister for that year. Kjøstel Hansen could be Maren and Eli's father. Hans K. Moe is running the farm in census-1865. Maybe his full name is Hans Kjøstelsen Moe, and a brother of Maren & Eli? [:)] Widow Anne Marie Nielsdatter is also living there, and could be Kjøstel Hansen's wife. Jan Peter

nucmedtekThis is my family. As I understand it Hans Kjøstelsen died w/o heirs and the family farm (Stumoen) passed to the son of Abraham Gysler, deceased husb. of Maren K.
jwiborgLooks like you're right about that: 1865: owner: Hans Kjøstelsen Moe. 1886: owner: Hans Kjøstelsen. 1900: owner: Hans Kjostelsen Stuemoen, wife Thora Knudsdatter Stuemoen b.1844. 1955: owner: Finn R. Gysler. //Jan Peter
nucmedtekFinn R. passed ownership to his son Finn-Chr. and he is the current owner of Stumoengard. I understand that he may pass ownership to his son Phillip soon. I also found an old handwritten note (in Norse of course) that says a "gamle" Gysler was appointed as caretaker of Gripsholm Castle in Stockholm somewhere around 1834 (?). That's about as well as I can translate it with my limited knowledge of Norse. I guess that may have well been Gulbrand who was the lensmann at the constitutional meeting of 1814.
