Chr. Eckhardt Hansen, San Francisco 1905
ToreIn october 1905 Constance Marie Hansen left Kristiania (Oslo)by SS Hellige Olav. She was going to her husband Chr. Eckhardt Hansen, 1505 Leavenworth street, San Francisco, Ca. I am unable to find them in any census so I need some help. Constance Marie's emmigration protocol can be found at this links: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIOSLO&gardpostnr=175309&merk=175309#ovre Her arrival at Ellis Island can also be found in that database. According to Norwegian census of 1900 they was both using the name "Aarstad" as surename but they probably both had been living at a farm named Aarstad for a while. Chr(ristian)'s fathers name was probably Hansen, but why he has taken the name Eckhardt Hansen has no explanation.
Jo Anne SadlerWhen was the husband born? Hansen is a very common name and some of the census' are only indexed by head of household. Was he Christian/Christopher?
Odd Kjetil BergFirst name: Christian or Kristian Born 1875-1880
HopkinsIt was only a few months later, in 1906 that the great San Francisco earthquake happened. There are still investigations trying to determine exactly how many people lost their lives, and who they might have been. The official death counts were grossly underestimated.
Jo Anne SadlerHere is the official list of casualties from the San Francisco earthquake, they do not appear here: http://www.sfmuseum.org/perished/index.html
HopkinsThe 100th anniversary of the great San Francisco earthquaker has just passed. There were quite a number of commerative events and television progrqams with long stories of the event. It was stated repeatedly that the "official list" was far from complete. A drastic "undercount". So don't take any "official list" at face value.
Jo Anne SadlerI didn't say they were the only list, only the official list. Living here in California there has been much hype about the 1906 earthquake and sometimes these specials and documentaries get a little carried away, everyone has their own agenda, you have to take them with a little grain of salt. Just like the excessive hyping of Ellis Island.[xx(] The unaccounted for would generally be the underclass, poor, people without permanent jobs, people with no family around them to notice they were not around anymore, transients, non white immigrants especially the Chinese.
