Just exactly where is Ogne Sogn??
Wendy47Most of my Norwegian relatives were born in Ogna, Hetland, Rogaland. (Although my ggrandfather called it "Ogne Sogn") I think it's an area that has been annexed by Stavanger...but does anyone know how to get more specific than that...such as, is it on the West Side of Stavanger or the North End??
HopkinsNeither. You make an assumption I've never heard before. Ogna is part of Egersund district in Rogaland. The city of Stavanger is not close enough to annex either or both areas. It is true that many many years ago Rogaland was called Stavanger - but that has not been true for a long time. You will find Ogna one of the areas listed in the LDS Family History Library catalog and that many old records and resources for that area are available in their collection. There is also a great deal of information online - but without names, dates and other identifying information it is impossible to help you find it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~norway/rogaland.html http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html

I don't know if the link will take you to the actual map but searching on Norway Ogna will bring it up. Carla
jwiborgOgna is located in Hå municipality. You'll find Ogna township on the southern part of Ogna Bay, and up along the Ogna river you'll see Hetland.
Hopkins[Jan Peter - If you ever give a class or lessons in map work on the Internet I want to sit in the front row!!! I love the maps you present here - I spend happy hours trying to figure out where you get them and how you've occasionally modified them! Keep it up - it is great fun!] Rogaland seems to be an area where boundarys and jurisdictions are in constant flux. Ogna was part of Eigersund - now obviously in Hå. There's a modern district area called Hetland around/under/contiguous with the city of Stavanger and obviously either a large farm or small town called Hetland also on the Ogna river... Wendy by the time you get familiar with the geography of the area, searching the records for the PEOPLE ought to be easy...
