SS Florence (1867) Baard Solberg
tom solbergIn the database ofo pesons leaving Trondheim in 1867 (uib)I found my grandfather and great uncle wo sailed on the Florence out of Trondheim with the destination "tyne" with a fianl destination of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Do I assume correctly that it was a feeder ship bound for a port on the River Tyne? The agent was Chr. Henriksen who at the time was an agent for the Allan Line. Family history notes say that my grandfather entered at Castle Gardens (New York City). The Allan Line at the time saied out of both Glasgow and Liverpool, but I think the New York destinations were from Glasgow.I would like to find out where on the Tyne he sailed to and then try to pick up his trail from there. Is there any way to accomplsih this? Are there passenger lists for the Allan Line Ships out Glasgow or Liverpool. Thanks for the help. Tom Solberg.
BorgeHe probably departed the ship at, or close to Newcastle. The S/S Florence was also carrying a cargo of pyrites from the mines at Ytterøy in the Trondheimsfjord. Maybe that is a lead for you, where would be a natural place at that time to deliver such cargo? Børge Solem
