Voyages and Routes From Trondheim
safeharborAccording to the Emigrants From Trondheim 1867-1930 database in the Digitalarkivet, My GGM Bina Holing left from Trondheim on the SALMO in 1901. am not sure of the departure date, but the date of registration is 21.08.1901 The destination was Chicago, Illinois. Also, she was supposedly traveling with my GFather, Otto Olsen Holing, but I can't find an exact match to his name. Close, but not exact. I believe that the SALMO the sailed to HULL, but from there the trail ends. Any help to determine the continuation of their voyage to the U.S. would be greatly appreciated.
BorgeYou have to find the name of the transatlantic company (Linie), it will be listed in the emigration register together with the other info that you found. Børge Solem
safeharborThe Line Listed in the Emigration Register was STJERNE.Any Help would be appreciated.
Borge"Stjerne Linien" was the Norwegian term often used for the "White Star Line". The agent was authorized to convey emigrants via England to the United States. Some of their routes in 1901 was: Liverpool - New York, Liverpool - Boston/Philadelphia. Did you check the Ellis Island database? Børge Solem
safeharborThanks for redirecting my question to the correct topic forum. I did check the Ellis Island Database several times but to no avail. I believe that the ship SALMO traveled to Hull England at that time, according to your database. That is the point where I run into trouble. Is there a site that contains Passenger lists for Norwegian immigrants that trans shipped via Hull?? As always, your kind help is greatly appreciated. Rick Olson
BorgeThere is no sites that I know of that will contain passenger lists for Norwegian immigrants that trans shipped via Hull. The reason is that no such lists were made. However, there are the "BT27 - Passenger Lists, Outwards, 1890-1960" You will find more information about those records here: http://www.norwayheritage.com/ships/em-prot.htm#brit If you tried all the different (and often unexpected) variations of your GGM's name Bina Holing on the Ellis Island db (she might be listed by her patronymic, read more about names: http://www.norwayheritage.com/ships/names.htm) You should also try searching for some of those she traveled close to, like she is registered together with "Ottar Olsen Heiberg" http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/EMITROND&variabel=0&postnr=96655&fulle=true&spraak=e If they didn't come through Ellis Island, try Boston or Philadelphia.
