Searching for Parents of
JeanJust beginning my research and not sure where to start. I am looking for mother, father and siblings of Albert Arneson. He was born in Oslo on October 21, 1878. I am not sure when he came here to the U.S. Sometime before 1911. My father was born here in 1911, so I know he came here before. The only other name I have is possibly his mother's name was Breta Maria (don't have the maiden name). Any suggestions on where I should go next?? I would appreciate any advice.
askeroiAre you absoulutely sure he was born in Oslo? In the 1900 cencus there is only one Albert Arnesen at the right age - but he is born in Fredrikstad. His mother's name does also fit: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1900/f00301&variabel=0&postnr=18936&fulle=true&spraak=F and here is the same persons emmigration: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/EMIOSLO&variabel=0&postnr=136242&fulle=true&spraak=F As quite a lot people moved to Oslo at this time it could very well be him. I can't see anybody else fitting. But of course he could have emmigrated before the cencus... askeroi
JeanThank you very much for the information. I was very excited when I received such a quick reply. I believe that you have found him. The information I received about his birth place being in Oslo could be incorrect. I am going to try and locate his naturalization papers here at the Massachusetts Archive. I see that in the same household that there was also a Jenny Arnesen. My father's sister (born here) was named Jenn, probably named after her relative from Norway. Thank you again. I now have information that I did not have before and I can continue my search.
askeroiHi again I would be very surprised if this isn't his mother and her parents in the 1865-cencus: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1865/f60104.wc2&variabel=0&postnr=1760&fulle=true&spraak=n Note the allmost identical birth place. But of course... There is no trace of his father in the 1865-cencus, but as he was born in Sweden he probably was there (in Sweden) at this time... Sorry askeroi
joanlee59I am searching for relatives of John Olson "Lee" and Marie (Mary) Olson Hagen, Martinsdatter, or Martinson "Lee" that came to MN in America in 1874, according to the 1885 census. They were married in 1872 and a son Olaf Martinius was born in 1873. They lived in Akershus county, Norway. I also need the name of the ship, and related information that brought them to America in 1874. All ship sites I have seen, and Norwegian Emigration Center, could not find where they traveled to America together. Marie lived at Fjaerkenstad farm at Ostre Toten, but I have no information after they married until they move from Minnesota to North Dakota in 1882 when they purchased land and are Dakota Territorial Pioneers. If anyone has any information or know of any relatives, we would sincerely appreciate this. We would love to know of any living relatives. Thank you Joan M Lee contact me at "JJLee6367@msn.com" Joan M Lee
askeroiI've hesitated to answer this last question as I expected Børge to move it to a new debate - here it's spoiling someone else's debate. But he hasn't, so here we go: To ask for a John Olson in Akershus Norway, and even worse about his living relatives is asking for a miracle. Especially when you don't even tell us when "your" John Olson was born - not even an estimate. It's like looking for the factory that made the famous needle - not in a haystack - but in a large barn. I guess you have found Marie Martinsdatter, 15, on the Fjærestad farm in Østre Toten here http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1865/f60528&variabel=0&postnr=128&fulle=true&spraak=F along with her father, Martin Ols., 37, her mother Helene Haakensdatter, 39, and her brother Hans Christian Martinsen, 8, and her sister Karen Martinsdatter, 4. But Østre Toten is in Oppland, not Akershus. So no help there in the search for John Olson. I cannot find these people in the by now passanger lists. I found a very suitable Marie (even explaining the "Lee" name), but she travelled (unmarried) along with a sister, not husband and child. Of course it still could be her if your information of a child being born in 1872 is wrong (Marie was unusual young at this time for being a mother AND HOUSEWIFE). http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/EMIOSLO&variabel=0&postnr=31672&fulle=true&spraak=F But still no trace of John. I just need more information... askeroi
askeroiSorry, the "paaenger Marie" is NOT the right person. She's too young. Please forget the statement about her being very young for the mother and housewife roll. She, namewise, just fitted so well I forgot to think about the age difference, it's 9 years between 1865 and 1874 - not five. Sorry. But still need more information. askeroi
