1901 Whie Star Arrivals New York, Boston, Philadel
safeharborIs there a database that shows all the White Star Line voyages between Liverpool/Southampton and New York, or Boston and Philadephia for August and September 1901, giving the ship's names and arv. date? This will help narrow my search for my GFather if this data base is available.
BorgeThere is an index of ships to New York 1890 - 1930, called the Mortaon Allan Directory. Anthony Cimorelly has transformed it to an online database at his site: http://www.cimorelli.com/safe/shipmenu.htm Børge Solem
SueHi, just to add a little to what Børge wrote, the Morton Allan Directory does not show Boston and Philadelphia arrivals before 1904, however, I can limit your search. White Star Line was only sailing from Liverpool to New York in 1901. If you are looking for a Norwegian gfather, then you should be able to find his departure date online on the digitalarkivet. With that departure date, just add two weeks plus/minus and you will have an estimate of his arrival date. Use the website quoted by Børge, to learn which ship is most likely. There were 8 August arrivals and 6 September arrivals. You should be able to find his arrival record online at the Ellis Island database. Use this great entry page for that database. Steve Morse's Ellis Island in one step site http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis/ellis.html Good luck! Sue
safeharborDear Borge & Sue. I did go to the CIMORELLI Site and found the most likely ship arrivals. Success! On the Ellis Island data base, I searched the Manifests of passengers traveling on the same ship, the SS CELTIC. I found GGM Bina Holing and GFather Otto Holing, (Then named Ottar Hiberg.)They both arrived on Sept. 08,1901, and then continued on to our neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. I had to go thru each page of the Manifest as neither of my ancestors were listed in the index. A little bit of work but well worth it.There were quite a few passengers plainly listed on the manifest itself, but not on the Index for a Passenger search. Goes to show that one should not only go by the Search Engine results! I'm now going to start a search for my GMother, Maiden name Emma Caroline Johnson, who emigrated from Trondheim on May 16,1906, on the "K.H." which I believe to be the KONG HARALD. Thanks again for the wonderful tips and help. Rick Olson
