Lars & Brynhild Magnussen to America, 1888
JLynnBTrying to figure out how to find out if my great great grandfather and grandmother made it to America, specifically South Dakota, from Norway. I have that they left Trondheim on the Domino Line, Domino Ship, Date of registration 10/31/1888, destination Springfield South Dakota. My great grandfather Emaus Beck Larson (last name became Magnuson when he came to America to Springfield, South Dakota) came over with his wife, Maren, the year before, 1887. I understand that the Domino was a Feeder ship, that they transfered ships before finishing the voyage and that whatever ship brought them over went to Quebec. Records I have found on Emaus and family showed that they arrived in Quebec before going to Springfield, so I am assuming the same for Lars and family. Can anyone help me on this? My great great grandparents' names were Lars and Brynhild O. Magnussen, and they brought a daughter, Albertine, with them. Thanks for any help or guidance that anyone can give. BorgeAs I see from the records they were from Vefsen up north in Norway, so they would have traveled by a coastal steamer or hiked on a freighter down the coast and in the Trondheimfjord to Trondheim (Trondhjem). At Trondheim they signed their contracts with the head agent of the Dominion Line and registered with the police. They then probably departed on the S/S Domino of the Wilson Line for Hull in England, then crossed by train to Liverpool where I think maybe they boarded the S/S Vancouver of the Dominion Line, and arrived to Halifax on November 11th. Then they most likely traveled by train to their final destination in Springfield Dakota. Børge Solem
JLynnBThank you for your information! I have been having trouble finding anything past the record of the original ship in Trondheim. I haven't had time to work on this for awhile - that is why it has taken so long to respond. I appreciate your help and will see what else I can find out with the information you have given me. Thank you again. Edited by - JLynnB on 24/06/2002 02:06:18
