Looking for grandfather, Louis H. Nord from Norway
looking4nords	I am trying to find any info about my grandfather. This is just what I've been told about him. His name was Louis Hogan Nord. Was told that he may have been a stow away on a ship and when he got close to New York he jumped ship and swam ashore. He made his way to the coal mines in southern West Virginia. (Logan) He was killed in coal mines in August 7, 1930. He was 40 years old. There was some talk that he had a wife and two children before he came to USA but they were killed. Also was told that he was adopted by the Nord family, that his last name was Hogan. My dad's family would not tell him very much about his father. Everyone was very secretive about him. If anyone could tell me anything about him or lead me in the right direction on how to find anything about him, I would be so very grateful. If you can't tell, I'm a newbie to this . Borge	I strongly suspect that the name has been "Americanized", what could the original name be?. Do you have any other clues? Børge Solem
looking4nords	Thank you Borge. It is true that on the few documents I have been able to find his name is spelled differently. On his death certificate it is spelled Louis Naud. On the grave marker it is Lewis Noid and that his date of birth was May 30, 1890. I thought maybe it was just a misprint. In 1930, from what I understand, they didn't keep very good records around here. I know from looking at the old newspaper micofilm they didn't put much information about deaths. And when I went to get the death certificate they were surprised that it was in the books. The next step is trying to find out about Workman's Compensation records. My dad knows that his mother recieved a monthly check from them. Any other help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks very much. Ann
