Vik Family
Uff DaI am looking for Ole M. Vik and Severine ?. Ole M. was born in 1855 and Severine in 1851. I think they were married in Tronheim but not sure. They were married about 1867. According to the US census Ole M. left Norway in 1871 and Severine left in 1874. I think that Ole M.'s father was Ole O. so he may have been Olson or Olsen. I can't find any ship records for them and I don't have any information on their ancestry. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks Lori Lauen
BriningHi Lori Do you have the correct dates? If Ole was born in 1855 and married in 1867 he would have been 12 years old when he married! Carla
Uff DaYou are right. They could not have been married in Norway. I checked the 1900 and 1910 census. According to that Ole M. did go to the US in 1871 and Severine went in 1874. They were married either in 1875 or 1876 which would mean they were married in US. In the 1880 census they were living in Erdahl Twp, Grant County, Minnesota. I guess I will have to try and find their marriage somewhere to find out Severine's last name and try and go from there. I am glad you brought this to my attention. I should have realized that. Thanks. Lori Lauen
BriningHave you checked the Minnesota death records http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm There is an Ole M Wick in Grant county which could be a possibility with the way names were miss spelled. You can order a copy on line and it might have more info like parents name or place of birth Carla
Uff DaThanks Carla, I think this would be the Ole M. I am looking for. According to the US census he was with Severine in 1910 but in the 1920 census Severine was living with her daughter so I thought Ole M. had died sometime in those years. Wick is the spelling used after they had been in the US awhile. My dad's last name was Wick. Ole M. was his grandfather. Thanks so much. Lori Lauen
BriningHi Lori Here could be some more information for you. On the Bureau of land patents http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ there is a record for Ole Magnus Olson Wig in Grant county. This is probably your Ole and gives you more info to search on. You might be able to find him on the digitalarkivet in the census or emigrant records there. I'm off to Norway to see my ancestors land so don't have time right now to "dig" into it. Good Luck Carla
Uff DaThanks so much Carla. This would be him. I have searched the US census and he is the Ole M. from Grant County. I have searched the 1865 census for Norway and I did find his family and he is written down as Ole Magnus Olson there.. They used Wig as their last name for awhile in the US because they came from Vigaunet in Nord Trondelag. I will go check out the site you gave. You have been such a help and thanks so much. Have a terrific time in Norway. I hope to go there some day. Lori Lori Lauen
Uff DaI have found them in the passenger records leaving Norway. Thanks so much for all your help. Lori Lauen
BriningYour welcome. I'm glad I could help Carla
