Idenity of a Norwegian sailing vessel
peter	My grandfather, Mikel Olaf Rasmussen, aka Michael Olaf Olsen,went to sea in 1890 as a cabin boy. He was 14 years old at the time. According to some very sketchy stories he told me as a boy, he sailed the seven seas and finally jumped ship in New York around 1898. He claimed he was chased by the police and ended in Alpena, Michigan. There he settled and married. One of the prize possessions I have is a model of a ship in a bottle that he supposedly made while sailing. I don't know much about sailing ships so I need HELP! The model is of a sailing ship with three full masts and a mast on the rear for a straight sail. It flies the Norwegian flag and he wrote the name "THEODOR" on the side. The model is about 6" long and 3" high. There are 3 small cabin houses on the deck and the middle one has a smokestack. Is there anyone who could help me get some information. I am writing my memoirs and would like to add to it somemore about my Norwegian heritage. I am also looking for more information about Sven Foyn. He was an uncle of my grandfather? Trond	Hi Peter, I guess this is family matter as Mikel’s sister Kristiane was my g-grandmother and Agnes Austheim was my grandmother. I guess we have met sometimes in the past Peter! I will try to find information of the Theodor from the maritime museum here in Oslo. They have a lot of records of ships and also some photos/painting of ships. Trond Austheim
