Has anyone met these sailors?
jwknudsen	I've been searching for information about my great-grandfather and a great uncle for some time with only minimal success. Petter Martin Knudsen was born 7/14/1853 at Hidra (Vest-Agder), a navigator by trade who wound up in Brooklyn, NY by the mid-1880's to take on-shore work as a cable splicer for a street railway and on construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. He died in Manhattan around 1895. Andreas Andreassen was born in 1875 at Åkerøya (Aust-Agder), a carpenter and later an upholsterer by trade. A friend on ÅAkerøya told me that Andreas made more than 40 crossings to the States, refusing to fly after the Norwegian American Line went out of business. He worked for a time as an upholsterer at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. He died in 1979 and had wintered on Åkerøya until he was 100. If anyone recalls hearing their names mentioned by a family member who might have encountered either of them at sea or elsewhere, I'd be very grateful for any anecdotes you might have to share. If they would print something about these persons, and that could help you getting in touch with people who might have known them.
