Hans Sigvaart Nelson info
TammyMy maiden name was Lokken. However my father went to a funeral of one of his relatives that recently passed and found out that my great grandfathers real name was Nelson. He arrived in the US sometime in the late 1800's and took the name Lokken from an Uncle he was staying with somewhere in the Chicago area, he later settled in Superior Wisconson. His full name was Hans Sigvaart Nelson and he came from the town of Twedeserand somewhere near Oslo. I was wondering how I could go about finding some information on my Norwegian background. I would appreciate any help or leads. Thank you Tammy Clawson, Lokken, Nelson? Edited by - Tammy on 22/05/2002 20:24:55
askeroiYour question of your norwegian background is placed under norwegians in America, so I'm not quite shure if you are looking for norwegian or US info. But if you're looking for norwegian info: There are som farms called Løkken in the Tvedestrand area. Your great grandfather probably was connected to one of them. Here is the only Hans in the 1865 cencus: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1865/f60920&variabel=0&postnr=5512&fulle=true&spraak=n But if you're right about your grandfather taking the name of an uncle this might very well be the wrong person - as it is the uncle we must find on a Løkken farm to find the right family. Do you know this uncle's name? askeroi
TammyMy father doesn't seem to know much about his grandfather except that they called him Sig (for Siggvvard). Is there anyway of finding out if there was a Hans Siggvard Lokken, or maybe just Siggvard Lokken. I know I am not giving much to go on, but I got real excited when you said there were Lokken farms in the area where my greatgrandfather supposedly came from. From what I have been able to research there aren't too many with the name Lokken in Norway. Then again figuring out Norweign names is not a simple task in itself. Once I get more info I will check back in. Thank you for the information. Sincerely Tammy Lokken Clawson
askeroiWell, there IS actually one (and only one) Sigvardt on a Løkken farm in Norway in the 1865 census, even in about the right district. But his surname/patronymicon isn't Nilsen but Hansen. And if this is the right person, where does the uncle fit in - this person didn't take the Lokken name from his uncle - he took it from his own living place: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1865/f61029.wc2&variabel=0&postnr=1366&fulle=true&spraak=n askeroi
