| James E Heg | Do you have any info on this ship? I have a reference to SKOGSMAND, Capt. Rundberg. July 15, 1839 from Drammen (???) Arrived September 2, 1839, Newport Harbor (presume Newport, Rhode Island as passengers arrived NYC on September 3, by steamer). Two quite important immigrants were on board - Søren Bache and Johannes Johanesen.

| Trond | I have looked for this ship in the newspapers for Christiania and Drammen for 1839. There was no information of this journey by the Skogsmand there. The year of 1842 was in the beginning if the emigration from Norway and there were no focus on the subject of emigration in the newspapers.
Also a search for Skogsmand in the first national registers either of ships ”Den Norske Handelsflaaden” for 1842 were negative.

| James E Heg | Thank you Trond. Your answer is a bit baffling. Søren Bache kept an extensive diary, from which this info was taken. He travelled widley in the US and returned to Norway several times. This ifo is published in NAHA "Studies and Records" as "gospel."  Jim Heg

| James E Heg | Trønd - Please not that my info says the ship made Newport, Rhode Island, not New York. Newport is a tough little port, even to get a powered vessel into safely. I have a couple of friends that crashed destroyers going in or out. Didn't help their careers a bit. Jim
