the ship UNDINE
indepi'm new here and hope this is going to the right forum....please bear with us. according to my fathers report, my greatgrandfather was a ships captain (the UNDINE) who jumped ship when ported in america??? not an honorable thing to do, i know. but reading a lot of the history and things going on during that time in history, i can understand somewhat. again not an honorable thing to do!!! his name was Ole Martinez Egeland ( spelling). i understand names in the norwegin families have a tendancy to change because of oldest son and other reasons. guessing the dates to be around 1851 to 1900. i noticed the ship was built in 1851 with very little history of her voyages or passenger lists. any help with the ships history or any knowledge of Ole would be sincerely appreciated....thanks Dave
BorgeDave We do not have any information on Ole Martinez Egeland. It is not easy to help when you do not have more information. You could try writing to the Maritime museums in Oslo: Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum Bygdøynesveien 37 0286 Oslo NORWAY You should know that a name as UNDINE was not unique for a ship, so there were several ships by that name throughout the years. indepthanks for the information on research thru Oslo. talking to my dad and his sister who is 90 now and he being 83, family history begins to become a little mixed up. my aunt had a descendants list of our family she had been keeping for several years and had forgotten about it. last notation on the list was in the 1960's. i am not for sure who was the imagrint from norway, but do have the correct spellings of names and some of the birth dates. 1. Martin O. Egeland no infromation on place of birth and dates 2. Ole Martin Egeland son of Martin O. Egeland born11/10/1845 in Stravanger, Norway.....died 03/01 or 03/1910 in mill grove, missouri. 3. David Edmund Egeland son of Ole Martin Egeland born 05/11/1889 in washington, colorado.....died 10/24/1924 in miles city, montana 4. David Edmund Egeland, jr son of David Edmund Egeland born 08/01/1919 in miles city, montana 5. David Edmund Egeland son of David Edmund Egeland, jr born 08/22/1947 in Yokouska, Japan...son of military parents stationed with the occupation forces in Japan after WWII. if anyone has any information on Martin O. Egeland or Ole Martin Egeland son of Martin O. Egeland, it would be sincerely appreciated. Supposedly Martin or Ole was the captain of the ship Undine at one time and that is how we happen to come to america. circumstances are somewhat vague. Borge thanks for your help and i will get in touch with archives in Oslo if possible....again thanks, this is a great website. you should be commended!!!!! dave
