Which ship to New York?
torI'm tracing an emigrant with a special name:He was baptized Knud Olsen Haavi, 1854, Slidre, Valdres, Norway. He's registrated as en emigrant with the same name May 13 1881 on the ship ROLLO. Arrival NY The problem is; did he change ship in England or did the ROLLO go to NY?? If I could follow his tracks I hope I could find the name he was "given" in the US, and then trace him in US archives. It could have been Knud/Knude/Knute O.Haavi/Haavie/Hove/Haavig....! Best regards from Norway, Tor
BorgeHei Tor Knud was travelig on a ship belonging to the White Star Line from England. The Rollo of the Wilson Line only sailed to Hull. From Hull he would have gone by train to Liverpool. The agent in 1881 was Fr. Lie, and he was authorized to convey emigrants via Hull to Liverpool, from Liverpool to New York and inland. See the Agents and Lines database. Then look at the page of corresponding ships in the Arrivals database for the S/S Rollo journey 1881-05-13 Christiania - Arendal - Christiansand - Hull. You will see that the S/S Adriatic (I) White Star Line from Liverpool 1881-05-18 to New York 1881-05-27, and the S/S Germanic White Star Line Liverpool 1881-05-19 New York 1881-05-28 are the most likely ships for Knud.
