My grandfather
ellenMy grandfather Hjalmar Johannessen Blomdal, his wife Esther and their daughter Alfhild arrived New York 31.7.1922. They were going to Worcester in Massachusetts, but i cant find anything about them after their arrival to New York.I am thankfull for any further help.
thelebrityTry this Worcester page at Rootsweb. Maybe you'll get help finding documents that can prove Hjalmar went there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~maworces/ Per Helge Seglsten
Stephanie BenoitIf you look at the EllisIsland.org records, you will see that they are going to their brother in law's place. The wife was in Mass. before. It also states that their length of stay is uncertain. It names the brother in law, though I believe there is some misspelling there. If you look also for Martinus Eilertsen sailing in 1911, you will find his address in Worcester. I believe that is the same person. This doesn't help you find Hjalmar specifically but maybe if you follow the clues, find the Martinius, and you may find where Hjalmer and his family ended up later. After doing a little more searching, I find that Martinius was living on Ayrshire in 1934 in Worcester...that is what was on that manifest with Hjalmar. I didn't realize that was a street name when I first looked at it. ....OH OH....Hjalmar is living on 49 Sherbrook Ave. in 1934. That's a start... Stephanie
thelebrityStephanie, what is your source for the 1934 information? Is it something that is available on the net. Per Helge Seglsten

Per Helge, I accessed the info with my paid subscription to Ancestry.com which happens to have the 1934 Worcester City Directory posted. Stephanie
Stephanie BenoitAfter doing some more searching, I found that Ellen is in Norway. I am in California so I don't have access to Worcester records, nor do I have much experience in that area. I did find Hjalmar and family on the 1930 census (on Sherbrook Ave) and there were no additional children by then and Esther was already 38. Alfhild is 10. Hjalmar was a machinist at Emery Wheel Mfg....it is hard to read but I think that is what it says. I think perhaps posting at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.worcester and/or http://genforum.genealogy.com/ma/worcester/ as well as searching the URL that Per Helge gave you, may produce some more clues. I don't know what churches were in the area that they might have attended. Maybe there is a more recent directory available for Worcester which would give you more clues. Hjalmar was not yet a citizen but he had submitted his papers. The local court would have copies of his original papers...or it should. I wonder if there is a death directory in Worcester which would tell you when Hjalmer or Esther died. Then you could maybe get someone to find an obit so you can fill in some more details. I would ask on the Worcester boards if that is available, and where it can be accessed. I know in New Bedford, the library has the directory and the obits which can be ordered...for a small fee. Alfhild could still be alive but finding her would be tough since you don't know if she married and what her name would be. There isn't a Blomdal in MA currently, though there are a few nationwide - no Alfhild. That isn't much to go on but it is a start. I don't have more time right now but if I get some more time and I find anything, I'll post here. Stephanie
Stephanie BenoitIf you decide to follow Marinius Eilertsen 48, he is found on the 1930 census with his wife Conscans[as I see it], 42, and children Ruth M. 19, Helen K. 17 and Walter C. 15. They are living at 21 Ayrshire Rd. Worcester. Marinius is a foreman in a leather manufacturer. His daughter Ruth also works for a leather manfacturer. Conscans is not listed in the Worcester 1934 directory so she may be dead by then. Do you think she is the connection to Hjalmar's wife - perhaps a sister? You may want to track them in hopes of finding a link to Hjalmar's family. There is a Walter C. Eilertsen in the Social Security Death Index who may be the same Walter. WALTER EILERTSEN SSN 034-10-4173 Residence: Born 23 Jul 1914 Last Benefit: Died Oct 1973 Issued: MA (Before 1951) The date seems close for this one: RUTH M EILERTSEN SSN 532-18-4426 Residence: 98513 Olympia, Thurston, WA Born 8 Jan 1911 Last Benefit: Died 15 Mar 1994 Issued: WA (Before 1951 This index doesn't tell you much or if it is the same persons. Not much happens on this board but it wouldn't hurt to post here http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=surnames.eilertsen I'll stop here to see if you are interested in searching the Eilertsens. Most of this is through my subscription to Ancestry.com. These people could even still be alive. There is an Eilertsen in Fairhaven, Mass which may be a connection. Regards, Stephanie

Regards, Stephanie I am so happy for whath you have found. I coud not have done it myself. One of Esters sister is called Caspara, born 1887, so my be that is her name, and not Conscans. If you find moore I will be verry pleased. You see,Hjalmar had a son in Norway with another woman, who is my father. His mother died when he was 1 year old and my father was adopted.I have always been wondering if he has brothers and sisters, and what happend to my grandfather. Regards Ellen

Please try posting at the two sites I mentioned and ask about your family there. You should try to do some of the work yourself. I have to allow a morning at least for some more searching and I won't have any free mornings this week. Regards, Stephanie
Andrea AndersonHei everyone! I am a Norway-L lister, and actually found out about this site through them. Does anyone know anything about my great Uncle August/Gustaf/Gus Bernhart Andersen/Strand? Let me know because we know he had children, but after grandpa Andreas Martin Jentoft Andersen died in 1939, the family went their own ways. Also my great Aunt Anna Konstanse Andersdatter? She had three children Vivian, Ethelen and Roy (died in his late teens). Vivian and Roy had come to the farms before my dad went into the forces but dad never seen them again after that. But dad has a picture of Ethelen on her graduation in 1949 with her mom Anna. Let me know, thanks, Andrea Anderson Malodie Tchapko
