Inman Line Feeder Ships
Andrew	I'm researching my great-grandfather. His Americanized name was John Newstrom (from Sweden)and he arrived in NY (Ellis Island)on April 1, 1893 onboard the S/S PARIS. I suspect he was travelling with a Per. O Newstrom (age 19). The voyage originated in Southampton. I'm trying to identify possible feeder ships and ports of origin, ticket agent, etc. Family tradition is that we're southern Swedes, possibly Malmo. Where do I start?
Borge	Hi Andrew If your great-grandfather departed from a Swedish or Norwegian port to go to America via England, they would most likely have traveled on one of the Wilson Line steamship to Hull. Both Norwegian and Swedish emigrants were registered by the National police, and the records are available at the National archives, and on film. The Swedes also have produced an emigrant CD, while the Norwegian records are online at the Digitalarkivet. To find the name of the feeder ship you must find your great grandfather in the police emigration records, where you might also find the name of the feeder ship, or at least the date of departure. This S/S Paris was built in 1889, and launched as the S/S City of Paris for the Inman Line. In 1893 she was transferred to the American flag and became the S/S Paris for the American Line, and was maintaning their Southampton New York service. In 1918 she was renamed S/S Harrisburg. In 1920 she was renemed again now sailing under the neme S/S Philadelphia. Børge Solem
