Jehanshaven
JudieIs there or was there such a farm? In my family notes I have: The farm lies up in "LIOM" (the lee of the mountain) in Plassen Circuit, about 5 kilometers from Alvdal railroad station. The name of the farm is "LIEN" but is known colloquially as Jehanshaven. On the other hand it is listed in the registry (or register) as "PEDER'S PLAUSSEN". Both Peder's Plassen and Jehanshaven are named after the first settlers. The name Johan was pronounced Jehan in olden days. Jehanshaven was built shortly after the Louise smelter was constructed (1748) by one Peder, who worked at the smelter (copper). But the history of the farm is not known before 1793. In this year Johan Anderson became the owner. He was born in Grimsbo (Hennigarn) and was married to Giskin. Johan would be my great great great grandfather. If you have any information on the farm, I would appreciate hearing from you. Judie
ninakarlsHere are Johan and Gisken in the 1801-census: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1801/f10437&postnr=1911&spraak=e
JudieThank you for responding. Would you believe I just found them on the 1801 census two days ago! I don't understand Norwegian so I'm not sure what all the headings mean except 'Mand' means husband, 'Hans kone' his wife, 'Deres born' their son and 'ugivt' 'nmarried. I don't see the name Jehanshaven or Lien. Should the name of the farm be on the 1801 census? Is Hedemarkens a place? the Prestegjeld of Tonset is where? What is Sokn? Lille Elvedals? Do you know if any of the information on the census is near Plassen Circuit or the Alvdal railroad station? Hope this isn't too many questions. Thanks again for any help you can give me. Judie
ninakarlsThe name of the farm would normally be on the 1801 census. Hedemarkens (now: Hedmark) is a county. Prestegjeld (=parish) of Tonset (now: Tynset) is in Østerdalen. Sokn (=sub-parish) Lille Elvedals (now: Alvdal) Circuit could be Kikut Bibliographical reference to local farm and family history: Alvdal - ei bygdebok : garden og ætta / av Einar Steimoeggen. - Alvdal bygdeboknemnd, 1952-1966. - 2 vols in 3 parts
Judieninakarls Thank you for the information. It is good to know that Lille Elvedals is the same as Alvdal. This makes me think my family information may be correct. Your bibliographical reference to local farms and family history must be a gold mine of information. Thanks for taking the time to look this up. Alvdal - ei bygdebok : garden og ætta / av Einar Steimoeggen. - Alvdal bygdeboknemnd, 1952-1966. - 2 vols in 3 parts This is all "Norwegian" to me so don't know what it means, only recognize the word Alvdal! ninakarlsJehanshaugen in Alvdal is named after Johan Anders. 1767-1841, married 1792 to Gisken Nikolaisd. 1769-. They had children: Anders, Knut 1796-, Embret 1800-, Kari 1805-, Marit 1809-. Anders 1793-1842 took over the farm, married Anne Andersd. 1792- and had 4 daughters: Gisken 1818-, Marit 1821-, Kari 1824-, Johanne 1829-. Next couple on the farm was Gisken and her husband Blostrup Brynjulvs. 1813-. They had children Anders 1837-1928, Brynjulv 1838-, Anne 1840-, Kjersti 1843-, Ingeborg Anna 1847-, Johanna 1852-, Ola 1855-, Johan 1857-. Anders took over the farm in 1886, married Kari Hansd. 1833- Øver-Lien and had children: Marit 1863-1946, Gudlaug 1864-1948, Hanna 1866-, Anne Marie 1870-1924, Berit 1873-, Kari Anna 1875-, Blostrup 1879-1901. Kari Anna's son Ingar was the next user. He married Magna Samuelshaug (Trøen) 1914- and had children Arve 1945- and Arnhild 1947-. JudieThank you so much! Your information dovetails nicely with what I had but you filled in a lot of gaps. Plus I see we had the name misspelled! My notes show: Johan Anderson Lien married Gisken Kikolaidatter (another misspelling!)Their children Anders, Knut, Engebret [my ancestor](which would be Embret?), Kari and Marit. Anders married Anne Andersd. Bakken. They had a daughter Gjisken Andresd. Lien, her son Johan Blostrupsen, his son Blostrup Maantroen, whose wife is Gudlaug Petersd. from Eriksbakken and had 4 children in 1933: Johan, Kari, Per, Ingbjorn. Owners in 1933 were Marit and Gudlaug Johanshaugen, (there's the correct spelling of the name!), daughters of Anders Blostrupsen Lien, both nearly 70 in 1933. Thank you for confirming some of my information and clearing up some of the errors. Our family's name, upon arrival in the U.S. became Bothne. My great grandfather was Andrew (Anders) Engebretson (son of Engebret [Embret]Johansen) and half his children went by Anderson and half by the name Bothne. Do the names Bothne, Bakken or Lien mean anything? Are they farms in Norway? Again, thank you thank you thank you for all your hard work and willingness to respond. Judie
