stevej	The Ellis Island web site have pictures of the " Carmania " for sale, my Grandfather also came over on this ship and I purchased a copy of the manifest along with a picture of the " Carmania " for my Father. I hope this helps.
stevej	Did a quick search of the Ellis Island website and found: Harry Leyland 25y 6m Ethel Leyland 25y 3m Arriving July 9, 1923 from Liverpool,England place of residence St.Helens ,England Just go to the Ellis Island site and enter Harry Leyland for the search. You can purchase a copy of the original manifest, along with a pic of their ship.

Hegra	Hello: The Ellis Island database is based on the U.S. Federal Customs manifests for the Port of New York. There are no actual Ellis Island records. Only third class steerage passengers were ever sent to be processed on Ellis Island, first and second class were processed abroad ship. Your ancestors may have entered this country through the Port of New York but were not processed at Ellis Island and it is very likely correct when they said they did not go to Ellis Island. Also, I have personally found ancestors that are listed on this site but were actually only on a ship that stopped in New York Harbor, only half the passengers got off in New York and the rest proceeded to Baltimore where they entered the U.S. Many ships stopped at more than one port. The only way to correctly verify information is to get a copy of the microfilmed actual original passenger manifests. Regards, Jo Anne

Jo Anne Sadler	You need to determine what class of travel they took, only third class was processed at the Ellis Island Immigration Center, the rest were aboard ship. Recommend you read the article on this site - New York Passenger Records now online. Doing a Google search and/or Ebay may yield some other information on this ship.
